sims 4

I bought a brand-new 13" MacBook Pro and have been installing it. I went to play the game and when I did so the screen was flashing and then when I entered a household it was pixelated (see attached images).

I previously was able to run the game near perfectly with high graphics on a my old MacBook that was over eight years old.

What is causing this?

Specs:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020)

Processor: 2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

Memory: 16 GB 3733 MHz LPDDR4X

Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB

Is your Mac on a soft surface? It looks like it in the pictures and it will dangerously overheat if so. The OS will throttle power to the game, resulting in poor performance including lagging, crashing, glitching graphics and even shutting down of your Mac to prevent hardware damage. Make sure it is on a hard surface, preferably elevated a little, so air can circulate underneath. Your Mac has an integrated graphics chip which isn't designed for gaming, it will always struggle more than a discrete/dedicated GPU. Add excessive heat into the mix and it will perform really badly.

Can you attach your Config.log file to a post here? It's in the Sims 4 folder. This is to check if your Intel chip is supported in the game file and at what maximum setting.

Could you also please attachet a screenshot of your in-game graphics options, making sure it also shows the laptop mode toggle at the bottom of the settings.

I've seen a couple of other reports of users with a similar issue on your model Mac. Not sure if they fixed it or not but I'll try and find them to merge together.

Does this happen in windowed mode too?

Yes, it was on a soft surface for the picture but usually when I play it is on a hard one (I was just checking some CC.)

I put it into Windowed Mode and this issue did not happen. I also have toggled with all graphics levels including laptop mode and it was still happening.

    Thanks, really informative 🙂

Does it happen if you move out the Options.ini file from the Sims 4 folder? When you launch the game they will be reset back to default settings based on your hardware. It would be interesting to see what those are and how bad it is compared to the settings you currently have. Your settings are really, really high and not optimal for an integrated chip.

Your Intel chip isn't currently supported in-game but we can add it. It may help with this issue in fullscreen. Full instructions here - https://bluebellflora.com/sims-4-how-to-add-your-gpu-to-the-graphicscards-sgr-file/ You need to follow the instructions for Intel chips. Let me know if you get stuck.

So I deleted my Override.ipi file and when I reopened my game the message below appeared. Once I went in game however, there were no graphical issues that I had been seeing previously before. Is the pop up I got on the screen something to be concerned with? Thanks so much for your help!

I don't know what the Override.ipi file is, where is it located?

Did you try and add your Intel chip toe the GraphicsCards.sgr file? The link in my previous post explains how to do it.

So sorry I mean the options.ini, I misremembered and wrote down the wrong name 😓

I haven't tried the second step yet but I will once I have some time.

No worries 🙂 Yes, add the chip to the GraphicsCards.sgr file to get it properly supported and you should be good to go. Give me a shout if you need help.
