TS4 broken under macOS 14 Sonoma

Had a bit of a brain fart this morning and installed Sonoma (macOS 14). If you're considering updating DON'T - it breaks the game. It gets as far as the splash screen and then just beach-balls endlessly.

I have everything bar Horse Ranch and a few kits. I have no mods or CC installed. Running on a M1 Max MBP (64GB/4TB). I have restarted my Mac in safe mode, didn't help. It doesn't crash, so I can't glean anything from a 'send to Apple' report. I left it for about 10 minutes to see if it would resolve, obviously it didn't.

I realise that Mac players are kind of a second thought when it comes to EA, but we do exist.

Is this a known issue...? I don't have a fast enough connection to be able to uninstall and reinstall everything again. I can't give you any more info than this, it refuses to load past the TS4 splash-screen, I don't get any music either.

I have followed @Bluebellflora troubleshooting and repaired the game - no dice. The game is fully updated.

If you have got it to load successfully under Sonoma on a M1 Max then please let me know how you did it.

Sonoma is still in beta but will be released in a week or two publicly I believe. Once it’s out (I don’t bother with the beta updates anymore, I gain nothing from them), I’ll upgrade my M1 MBA and report back 🙂

Did you try playing in a new user account on your Mac?

@Bluebellflora I realise it is - I'm AuDHD, sometimes I NEED to know things, y'know. 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️. Yep, tried a new account and starting in safe mode. I don't know why I did it.

I've started to become increasingly disillusioned with the game, anyway, I'm a builder and I find build mode very restrictive; what I would really like is a hexagonal grid; hexagons are more of a natural shape than squares. I don't see why it can't be done as, obviously, there are hexagon-patterned floors.

The other thing that annoys me is how US-centric it is; there are ways I'd like to be able to build which I think are uniquely British. For example, I'd like to create a housing estate (ie more than one property per lot) with communal areas (eg a play park, shops and allotments) and I don't think such things exist in the US.

Or a block of flats with communal areas. I'd love to be able to create a self-sustaining, off the grid community, which obviously isn't possible due to the restriction of one lot usage type per lot.

I'm stuck in hospital and it's just something to pass the time. But I've been a f**kwit again. Ooh my meagre rations have arrived...

I'd love to be able to have more than one household/flat/house per Lot too!

What you describe isn't just a uniquely British thing though (I'm also British) but maybe down more to the mechanics of the current game. I'd like to build a Victorian terrace, maybe a tower block of flats with a playground. Or a sumptuous Mayfair apartment block overlooking a park.

Hopefully one day we will be able to have multiple units on a Lot 🤞

This thread is locked as it's receiving various replies unrelated to Sonoma.

The Sims 4 is compatible with Sonoma and can run on both Intel and silicon Macs. If you are experiencing technical issues with your game on a Mac, and your issue is not already covered in one of the ongoing master threads here, please start a new post in the Mac forum.
