All of a sudden dedicated video RAM isnt enough?

I did a bit more digging and i found out that i do have enough dv RAM, but on 'can i run it' it says i only have like 48. it must be that something else is taking up the space or i need to delete some stuff to clear up space, i just dont know what i have to do in order to make room. @crinrict

@lananthem Dedicated video memory (or vram) for integrated video is memory that is engineered into the motherboard or the video card and is normally not used for anything else but the video system. Integrated video chips (either with the cpu or chipset) frequently have no dedicated memory or very little. What the bios will do is set aside part of main memory for dedicated vram. The power of integrated video systems is engineered into the motherboard. While integrated video chips have become more powerful in recent years, the chips still don't have the power to replace a dedicated video system. The game requires at least 128Mb of dedicated video memory to run properly. Basically you need enough memory to write data to fill the screen for the frame buffer (which is the data what each dot on the screen will look like). The higher the resolution the more memory needed. This is an over simplification of the video system.

You only have 96 MB of VRAM and your processor is also a bit low in specs

Do you have any expansion packs or just the base game ? 

@crinrict yes i have all of the expansion packs and a few game packs. I dont understand how my game could have run so smoothly if i never had enough vram.

Did you change anything else ? Try to put your settings all on low ?

There's always a point where under-specs computers can't run the game anymore. You could try uninstalling City living and see if it goes back to working.

@lananthem  I don't know why ASUS partitions their hard drives the way they do. There is no good reason to partition the system drive unless there is a specific reason. The big problem is IMO 285.7Gb is not enough storage on the system drive for the Windows operating system. And why have a secondary partition bigger then the primary partition is baffling. There are programs that can add space to the primary partition from the secondary partition or make one big primary partition if there is no data in the secondary partition (like it should be). The cpu is underpowered and this determines the performance of the integrated video chip in the cpu chip. The Intel HD Graphics has been posted with having issues with the Sims games. While it is possible to run the Windows like that, the user needs to be award of the limited storage space and manage the drive accordingly (not for the casual user).
