Game crashing on after adjusting graphics.

My game crashes after I adjust the graphics settings. When I try to reload back in it crashes on the loading screen. I have done this with a new game folder, no mods, but still the same results. I have reinstalled my redistributables, reinstalled my graphics drivers, run repairs, uninstalled and reinstalled the game. But nothing. This is all happening after one of the recent updates. Can't even load into the game.

  • OrionSkybourne1  That is interesting, and helpful.  The thing is, your laptop's hardware is under the minimum requirements for Sims 4. So while that doesn't mean you can't play, obviously, you aren't necessarily going to be able to do everything in-game that you might want.  Edge Smoothing might simply not work correctly on your graphics chip and (somewhat old) driver.

What you can try, if you want, is switching to DirectX 11 mode.  Here's how:

    DirectX 11 (DX11) for The Sims 4 - A Step-by-Step Guide | EA Forums - 11811172

I'm not saying it will help, only that it might, and it's a simple test.

  • OrionSkybourne1  Sorry for the late reply.  If you still need help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Please also let me know whether the crash happens with any change in the graphics settings, or only when you change certain options, or only change them to certain values.  For example, maybe changing the Lighting value always crashes the game, or Sim Quality crashes the game but only if you choose High.

I'm not sure if this narrows it down, but all the other options are fine. The game loads up normally except when I manipulate edge smoothing. Then the screen flashes white, it may freeze, then crash. After that I find myself unable to load in as it crashes just as it's about to load the main menu.

Late reply. Switching to DX11 worked for me. I can change the graphics freely now. Don't know what was going on with DX9.
