Game File Issues

I've recently moved my game to an external hard drive and was initially having issues getting all of my saves and mods/cc to transfer, however it seems I was able to successfully transfer everything but now when I try to load the game on desktop, I get the "TSR_x64.exe not found" message. And when I go on the EA app and try to load it, it stays stuck on "repairing" or "queuing". When I was first trying to transfer onto the hard drive, the EA app created its own version of the game in the Documents folder in my files and none of my data was on the file, it was like a completely new game. I thought I solved the issue when it seemed all of the data successfully transferred but I'm now not even able to open the game. On PC btw.

  • Justthatonekidd  What's in the folder in Documents?  And is it an actual folder, or just a symlink?  The latter is a folder icon with a black arrow on it, so it's easy to miss.

Thank you so much, I’m now at the point where I can play my game and am able to have all of my mods/cc and saves back, the issue now, however, is that it seems everything is moved to my Hardrive but whenever I start the game, EA adds a new sims 4 file in my Documents folder, so while everything was switched to the hard drive and I’m able to play, it seems as if some files are still localized on my computer that are needed for gameplay. It seems all my saves and another version of the game are on the hardrive, and the actual playable game file is in my Documents. Would I still have to do the symlink?

  • Justthatonekidd  You said you couldn't open the game, but now it's loading and your saves and other user files aren't present?  If that's the case, you need to either move the content to the folder the game is reading, or create a symbolic link to redirect the game.  Here's how to find the folder it's reading:

Here's how to create a symlink:

If you need further help with this process, feel free to ask.  If you're having a different issue at the moment, describe it and I'll try to help.

I just tried to move my mods and saves folder to the new sims 4 file but its not in game when I load it up, still shows as a brand new game

  • did you completely reinstall the game? If you did, did you change the path to install to in the EA app? you can then just move your saves and mods to the new folder on your external drive.
