I am having a white screen while playing my sims 4 game

Product: The EA app
Platform:PC
Error Report ID (learn how to create an Error Report ID in the sticky post) No error ID
Which client functionality are you experiencing this bug with? Performance
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) 05.05.2023 11:46 pm
Summarize your bug Honestly I'm having a white screen issue, but it's like after the growing together expansion pack. Like I open in and out of the game and then like the 5th or 6th time it just turns into a white screen. I can't get out of the game but I can hear the buttons so I attempt to save the game and try to exit though I can't just escape from the game bc when I hit the windows button and try to click on a different program I still can't get put of the sims 4. Even with task manager I can't. So I have to turn off the computer and restart the whole game again. Yes I had tried mods before, and yes this is a reoccurring issue. Honestly I think this might be just a game glitch in general idk. I'll have to repair it but it feels weird. Yes I have tried installing and reinstalling it. I'll try repair again but still bonkers.
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Have mods I guess, and while playing press windows button to see a different program then go back into sims do this 4 times and you should see a white screen?
What happens when the bug occurs? A white screen but buttons are usable and you can hear the sound
What do you expect to see? A white screen

@puzzlezaddict Hi, I've tried all your suggestions so far to no avail. I thought it was one particular save, but after playing a new one it happened again. In Fullscreen it shows the white screen and then in Windowed it happens when my laptop goes into sleep or hibernation. When I reopen it, there isn't a white screen, but the game is locked up - same as white screen, but just visible.

I've attached my info. Any help would be appreciated!

@hypno-fr0g  It's not a good idea to put a computer to sleep, whether formally or by closing a laptop lid, while it's running a graphically-demanding application.  By "not a good idea" I mean both that you can run into problems like this and that even if you don't, performance may be significantly affected.  So if you want to put your laptop to sleep, quit Sims 4 first.  If startup times are too long for your taste, try suppressing the mods and cc pop-up at the Main Menu—this decreases load times by a significant margin.

For the issue in fullscreen mode, try using windowed fullscreen instead.

If that doesn't help, try setting the system and user DPI scalings to 96 (100%).  Even if you don't want to use your computer like this overall, it's a useful test.

Excitingly, I just started having this bug myself. It was caused by using a ReShade addon. It's back to normal now I've stopped using it. Obviously that's not going to be the solution for everyone (ReShade addons are rare), but just in case you do use one, remove it and see what happens.

Was that in 2023? I see the latest response was ‘October’. I just experienced this bug for the first time. I’m not sure if EA has fixed it before or whether this is just an old ignored bug. I’m pretty sure my EA app updated right before I started to play.

Last night I created a completely new save to test out building in the For Rent expansion. I have a second larger screen that is usually turned off unless I want to share what I am building with people irl. This usually turns on / off and mirrors without affecting the game whatsoever. My screen did not go white immediately, but the game completely stopped responding to my mouse clicks. I could hit escape and bring up the menu but I could not save without my mouse. This is when I alt tabbed in an attempt to ‘jumpstart’ the window considering the game was not completely ‘frozen’. I didn’t have other apps open so I windows+d to collapse the screen which immediately turned white. I have not been able to restore the image and I am about to quit. I hadn’t saved at all and shared right before I completed the finishing details so it is definitely a loss of several hours.

I don’t mind that much but it is annoying if a known issue has returned. It is clear that my issue is a little different since it was initially triggered by enabling an extra monitor mid game. This specific error was only triggered once I used window+D. I left it alone all night to be sure it was not coming back. I just ended it with task manager. All of my resource usage was low. The application was open and ‘working’ but I was completely unable to interact with it.

I just updated all my drivers last month for sims so even if they are out of date they can’t be by much.

Edit: I am definitely not using reshade. I have a few mods but my largest is mccc to customize sim lifespan.
Edit 2: Updating drivers again just in case although I am pretty sure I already had the latest January amd release

@Pi_Amazingness  The white screen isn't a Known Issue so much as a very common symptom of a number of different problems, including but not limited to a bad mod and an outdated graphics driver.  Aside from the mod-related occurrences, which typically happen when the game is first launched or when a new world is supposed to load, this issue needs individual troubleshooting.  For example, the graphics driver might be new but corrupt, or some other program could be conflicting with Sims 4.  So I wouldn't say that this is a problem that has resurfaced, and it's definitely not a bug since the cause is never the game itself.

Anyway, if you'd like help, please post a dxdiag.

Please also let me know whether it helps to play in windowed mode rather than fullscreen.

@Stepcolcuore  Does this happen when you first load the game, or later in the run of play?  If the latter, when does it happen, for example when you're sending your sims traveling to a particular world?

As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see whether you get the white screen.

If the new save is affected too, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.
