My Game keeps crashing when travelling to residential lots

My sims 4 game keeps crashing my my sims travel to residential lots.

I have repaired the game, set the display type to windowed, and selected the DirectX9 graphics and still the same thing keeps happening.

I use a PC for my games. I do npt have any Mods or CC.

Why is this happening?

  • odera1  Your dxdiag lists a number of crashes of the graphics driver, or one of them at least.  Since your current Nvidia driver is 18 months old, you could simply update it and hope that fixes the issue.

But when only one lot is affected, the problem is almost always that lot or something on it.  Does it help to bulldoze the lot and leave it blank?  What about replacing the build with something else?  The replacement build should be a default EA-made lot that you save to your library, nothing from the Gallery or that you've previously created, just to make sure you don't superimpose any (more) bad data.

If this is a build you want to save, you don't need to save your progress with these tests.  And you can save the build to your library and place it elsewhere to see whether the issue transfers to another lot.  Don't save after this step either, or else use a fresh save to test.

  • Hi odera1

Could you post your Computer's DxDiag?

    - Press Windows-Key + R
    - Type: DxDiag
    - Click on Save all Information.
    - Attach the Text File to your post

Hi, I have attached the file to this post.

It also looks like the problem I am having may be specific to one particular residential lot.

    Thank you.

    Thank you for the information.

I checked and when I bulldoze the lot the problem was gone.

I'm just curious to why this suddenly started happening because I have played that same lot for a long time and when I moved my current primary sims from that lot she was still able to visit the lot for a while until the crash suddenly started happening.

Also, how do I update my current Nvidia driver?

    Thank you

  • odera1  Some item could have broken on the lot, either because of a game update or through regular use.  (Outdated mods or cc can cause this too, or missing cc, for example a plate from a custom recipe when the cc recipe has been removed; but that wouldn't apply to you if you've never used mods or cc in this save.)  It's not always possible to figure out what broke, let alone why, although a lastexception, if you happen to have one from loading the lot, can often list the problem.

If you want to try using this lot going forward, save the rooms separately and test them one at a time in a new save.  Whichever room doesn't work has the broken item, and you can go into Build mode and start deleting stuff until you find the problem.  If all the rooms work, test the outside of the lot—you can put a fence around it and save it as a room that way.  If that isn't broken either, you can save the entire lot and try placing it elsewhere; maybe the act of placing a fresh copy fixes the issue.

As for updating your driver, go here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/

Enter your info, select Game Ready Driver as the Download Type, and you'll see the current driver and a number of slightly older ones.  In general, I'd suggest not installing the very-newest driver unless you need one of its features or your current driver isn't working correctly.  I always stay a few versions behind because I'd rather let other people be guinea pigs, at least on this matter.  Version 577.00, from July, was very stable and should work well with Sims 4.

Download the driver of your choice, right-click the download, select Run as Administrator, and let the installer do the rest.  Restart your computer afterwards and before doing anything else.
