My Sims4 Crashes on Startup

I have this issue for months. I did not pay enough attention to know if it was when a specific update came out, but I know it's been happening since at least June. My game crashes upon launch every time - it gets to the Sims4 and then completely crashes.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled/repaired countless times. I have tried launching from both EA and Steam. I used to play with mods, but when the crashes started I deleted all of them - so no mods to worry about. Reading through the other posts here, I've also tried checking my ConfigOverride, using a clean game folder, updating drivers, launching in windowed/fullscreen. I'm not sure what else to do ?!

I have put hundreds of dollars into this game and 800+ hours, and I just want to play again. Please help! I'm at my wits end. I have attached my dxdiag. THANK YOU!

  • deargrasiella  When you say you checked ConfigOverride, do you mean you made sure it was empty or deleted everything inside?  If not, please do so now.

If that doesn't or didn't help, please disable or uninstall LG Hub, which is crashing.  Disabling may not be enough, so please uninstall it if disabling doesn't work.

If that doesn't help either, please please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Try to play again, then look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

      Greetings!

In my folders, I cannot find a folder or file titled "ConfigOverride", so I deemed it as being good to go. Is this accurate, if not, what would cause it to be missing?

      I've uninstalled LG Hub.

This is the description of what happens via the Reliability Monitor when I try to launch The Sims 4: ""Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: 9WZDNCRFJ3PR-MICROSOFT.WINDOWSALARMS""

  • deargrasiella  The ConfigOverride folder would be in the same location as your saves, mods, etc., likely in one of these locations:

    C:\Users\your username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4
    C:\Users\your username\OneDrive\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

It would exist, even empty, if you've launched the game at all in the past couple years.

The Reliability Monitor entry isn't related to Sims 4 and isn't an error.  Please look for an actual error, not an update, and let me know what you find.

I found a Config folder, but there is no ConfigOverride folder. Are these the same thing?

No errors show up in the Reliability Monitor when my Sims crashes.

  • deargrasiella  There would be a Config file, but not a folder, and there should be a ConfigOverride folder even if it's empty.

What game version do you see in the lower-right corner of the Main Menu?  Please list it.  Please also post a new dxdiag, and make sure you've launched the game at least once after yesterday's update.

Hi! You've been the best at offering solutions. I ended up factory resetting my computer yesterday, and now The Sims 4 works just fine. Not sure what the underlying issue was before, but I'm happy it works now. Wishing you the best xx
