new start screen goes gray out forces me to reboot game 2 or 3 times

since this new start screen was added into the game, i am forced to restart the game 2 or 3 times each time just to be able to play. full screen pop ups with news from the game will appear then the start screen stays grey (as if there was a pop up opened) then i cannot click anything. yet if i press esc the options menu will pop up allowing me to exit the game or with alt+F4 keys.

similar not the same. i get the current news (for example the 60% discount) and after a update/sims delivery pop ups of the latest packs i purchased (for example the hobbies and bussiness pack) re appear as if i just purchase them. once i close them it stucks on grey.
move my mods folder out of the sims 4 folder, did not get grey out screen BUT when i return it i did not get it as well.
need every time a new patch/sims delivery or new promo is announced to reboot the game 2 or 3 times in a row, then the issue dissapears with or without mods enabled. this could be fix if you do a new tab for news like the packs and shop currently has. even if the game opens up with the start game at the right side the default tab is news. just get rid of the pop ups i wont purchase a pack i did not purchased on release (i dont own most of the clothes only kits for example i like to build only) less if a pop-up grays out my game. bad marketing strategy i would say. as well this only happens on windowed full screen or full screen. if the game is windowed (as a plain simple window) once i close the pop ups the grey out dissapears. it seems on windowed and exclusive full screen the grey layer is not detected/removed properly once the ads are close down.

  • olchaos  There are a few threads in the Feedback forum about the pop-ups, if you want to add your "vote" there.  I doubt EA is going to do away with ads anytime soon, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

As for your particular issue, I don't know what to suggest since the problem is self-correcting, eventually.  I guess you could play in windowed mode for a few sessions after each patch or when something else new appears on the screen.  Offline mode in the EA App is also useful.

I've never had this issue myself so can only go by what other players report.  Sometimes it's definitely the mods, sometimes it's a bug, sometimes it doesn't have an explanation and using windowed mode fixes it reliably enough for the player to not want to investigate further.

maybe is a directx 11 issue. never tried dx9. maybe when a patch is coming will switch to dx9 and if the problem gets solved maybe is a layer issue that is not properly implemented/compatible with dx11 but does work well with dx9

  • olchaos  That's possible, but I wouldn't expect the problem to keep going away on its own in that case.  Please also be aware that some custom content doesn't work with both the DX9 and DX11 versions of the game, so you might need to set aside your cc after switching.  ReShade and GShade both have separate DX9 and DX11 versions, although the game tends to crash outright when the wrong one is present.
