Sims 4 Sim Won't Do Anything

My sim will not perform any actions correctly. They will walk but any action I have tried (reading, shower, etc) the pop up action shows that they should be doing it but they stand completely still. When trying to talk to a sim all they do is dance, no talking interactions can be done.

I have cleared cache, made sure my drivers are updated, uninstalled and reinstalled, repaired game, I also am not using any type of mods or CC. It is also not installed on an external drive.

  • gravexgirl  I was trying to figure out whether the steamwebhelper.exe errors in your dxdiag would have anything to do with the Sims 4 issue.  I don't think so, but you can test by putting Steam in offline mode.  If it helps, it's something about Steam's internet connection; otherwise, it's something else.

If it doesn't help, please create a new admin Windows account and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address.  (You can keep saying you don't have that information until you get some security questions instead.)  You'll be able to launch Sims 4 without reinstalling anything, but your saves and other content won't be available.  That's part of the point, so don't transfer anything to the new account, and don't download content from the Gallery.

The Dance interaction spamming is a known bug:

But it doesn't sound exactly like what you're seeing.  If you think it is the same thing though, let me know.

I have just tested with a new save and the same issues as described in my post are still happening.

  • gravexgirl  Yes, everything's there now, although there are no new errors in the dxdiag.  Are you playing through Steam?  I ask because there are some Steam crashes in the dxdiag.  I don't typically see them associated with Sims 4 issues, but it's worth checking.  And if Steam is running in the background while you play (check the Task Manager's background processes list) even though you don't use Steam for Sims 4, be sure to shut it down before you launch the game.

The DISM command can take a little while to start, but it should have started and run to completion if you initially saw that message.

And I STILL need to know about a new save.  So please try one, exactly as I described, and tell me what happens.

When I put that in all I got was an Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool

    Version: 10.0.26100.8737

    Image Version: 10.0.26200.8737

Is that supposed to be what I see when inputting in Terminal?

  • gravexgirl  Your dxdiag is missing some information.  This could be a fluke or a sign of a system issue, not to mention the info may be relevant to the problem here.  So please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Click Windows key-X and select "Powershell (Administrator)" or "Windows Terminal (Administrator)" , whichever you see
    • In the window that appears, copy and paste "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" without quotes, and enter
    • The system will take a little while to validate; if it throws an error, please list it
    • Otherwise, copy and paste "sfc /scannow" without quotes into the window, and enter
    • Post the message you receive

Restart your computer, open Windows Settings > Update & Security, click the box to check for updates, and if any install, restart again afterwards.  Try again to play, and if you get another crash, post a new dxdiag.

I do still want to confirm that you have the same issue if you start a new save.  Please test with fresh sims, on a blank or default EA-made lot.

  • gravexgirl  Does this happen in a new save too?  Please test for comparison's sake.

If the new save is fine, test different sims in your main save, and the same sims but moved to a different lot.  You don't need to save your progress.

If the new save is not fine, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
