Sims 4 update trying to take 11+GB of space??

I woke up this morning and was told sims needed an update to play - OK. Fine. Then i'm told I don't have enough space, i check the updater and it says it needs like 8GB. Okay, wow, that's a lot but I guess i can do that. I clear up 8GB, and now it's saying 11GB... and that I still don't have enough space. How much space does this update want?? I literally can't clear up that much more space! The game itself takes up a lot of my storage. But I literally can't play it unless I get this supposedly MASSIVE update. What do I do?? I just want to play the game://

If you'd like to make a backup copy of your saves, go right ahead, although it sounds like you're low on space already.  So maybe only copy the saves you've be sorry to lose.  The files that end in .verx are backups of the save with the same internal number.

And sorry I didn't tag you before.  I meant to, as the suggestion was for you too, but it seems the tag got lost when I was rearranging my reply.

  • mth0721  Repair the game (EA App > Sims 4 > Manage > Repair) rather than updating.  This will give you the updated version while requiring less space.  You may need to clear the EA App's cache first:

In general though, you should really try to find a way to have more free space on your system drive.  It's not healthy for Windows, and can drag down performance in games and in general, to routinely have less than 10 GB free.

i've already done that, there's literally no more things i can afford to delete, i've deleted everything unnecessary... i'm not sure what to do

  • "That's super frustrating—the updater often needs way more temporary space than the actual update size because it unpacks files during installation, so it might be asking for 20GB+ even if the final update is smaller. Try clearing your temp files, emptying the recycle bin, and maybe moving some screenshots/videos to an external drive temporarily—once the update finishes, you'll get most of that space back! 💾😅"
