Sims 4 wont start any more after Windows update

After i installed the newest february 25 Windows update the Sims game wont work, it starts and I only get a white screen or flashes.  Had the same problem after a windows update too last year. All normal measures (exporting the Sims files on PC in a backup and starting again, starting as administrator, repairing and reinstaliing, following the complete helpdesk routine, etc),  nothing helped. My Nvidia app says drivers up to date. My system has more then recommended requirements. There is more then enough memory.  I solved the problem last year after all these measures failed by reinstalling Windows on the PC;  it did work. So I did it now again but it did not help this time.  Sims wont start. Then i again reinstalled Windows a second time out of the Cloud with complete removal of all files on the PC to avoid any corrupted files .  So I basicly started with a clean slate. I reloaded the basegame  again without the extensions and tried playing. Still the same problem. (i did leave all removed files in cloud storage so no involvement there)   I 'm kind of out of ideas what I could still do to solve this problem.

  • WAL1960  Please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Was there a resolution to this issue? I am experiencing the same issue.

  • MeganKAllen  What happens when you try to start the game?  If you get an error, please post a screenshot or type out the entire error message.  Either way, describe what happens on-screen, if anything happens at all.

Please also try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If that doesn't work either, please provide a dxdiag, as described above.

    Here is that dxdiag doc.

The first time it happened it told me my graphics card was incompatible, we updated it and that error message went away. Now it isn't giving me any message. It just sits on a white screen. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game as well.

  • MeganKAllen  Did you try the clean user folder, as described?  This is separate from uninstalling and reinstalling, which only affects the game's program files.

Part of the reason I ask is that your dxdiag doesn't list any Sims 4-related errors, which means I don't have any info about what's happening when you see a white screen.

Please also try updating your laptop's graphics driver, which is from 2021.  This is the newest driver available from Intel:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/208652/intel-core-i31115g4-processor-6m-cache-up-to-4-10-ghz/downloads.html

Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart afterwards and before trying to play.

HP doesn't always allow drivers from outside (non-HP) sources, so don't worry if you get an error when trying to install the driver.  In that case, please look for a new driver from HP.  Go here:

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/laptops

Enter your laptop's serial number, choose your OS (just Windows 11 is fine) if prompted, click All Drivers, expand Driver-Graphics, and look for a newer Intel driver than your current one, which has a version number of 30.00.0101.1191.  Anything that starts with 31 or 32 would be newer, as would one that starts with 30 and ends with something higher than 1191.  If you find one, install it as described above.

If this doesn't help either, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time you most recently tried to open Sims 4.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

I removed the folder and still encountered the issue.

I updated the graphic's driver using the link you had provided and restarted my computer. I opened sims and it loaded in to the main screen froze then crashed. When I tried re-opening it I had the same white screen issue again.

  • WAL1960  Sorry for the late reply; I've been away from the forums for a while and am still catching up.

My next two suggestions here would be playing in a clean boot and doing a clean (not regular) uninstall of the game and the EA App.  You can try them in either order.  For the clean uninstall, please see the accepted solution of this thread:

[CURRENT ISSUE] Sims 4 DLC shows as installed, won't load in-game | EA Forums - 11831673

Anchors don't work on this site at the moment, so use ctrl-F to search for revo and jump there.

Here's how to do a clean boot:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

If this helps, you can selectively reenable services until you find the culprit, then either leave that disabled or (if it belongs to an app you want to keep using) let me know what it is so we can try to fix the underlying issue.
