Sims four won’t open, stops and opens EA

Every time I try to click on the Sims four to play on through my steam it says it’s running but then a few minutes go by and it stops and it goes to my EA app on my computer, I have tried reinstalling the EA app, but now I can’t uninstall it because it doesn’t show as one of my uninstall options even though I can still go on the app. I have tried uninstalling the Sims four but that didn’t work, and yes, I do have mods, but I did take them out and they didn’t solve the problem either. And I also can’t check the properties for the Sims four on my EA app because it does not show up and it only shows “ manage add-ons”.

  • I found what the problem was for mine. Check the Sims 4 in the documents folder to see if you have anything in there that might be causing the glitch. Mine was the better exceptions thing that finds mods that aren't working. After deleting it Sims 4 loaded.

  • Lilly_Dilly420  For the EA App issue, try downloading a fresh copy of the installer and running it.  You should get the option to repair rather than reinstall; choose that.  If you still need to uninstall the App afterwards, it should be possible again.

If that doesn't help, you can remove it with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine), which is more thorough than a standard uninstall.

For the Sims 4 issue, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I had this exact same problem. I removed the Sims 4 folder from documents and it worked. What should I do now to get everything recognised?

  • izmayd  That means something in the old folder is the issue.  Test your mods and custom content first, in batches or using the 50/50 method:

Once you've sorted through those files, add back your saves folder.  If the game still works, add back the contents of Tray, plus Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those.  The rest can be discarded; the game will recreate the files as necessary.

Hi so I have done this however it now is not working at all. With mods or without mods

  • izmayd  Does the game now work in another clean folder?  I'd like to know whether there's a new issue that's preventing the game from launching, or you added back (or the game created) something in the new Sims 4 folder that's the problem.
