The sims4 relationships

I’ve been an avid sims player for almost 10 years now, I’ve noticed as of recently it is impossible to keep and maintain any sort of relationships. My sims will make friends as children but as they age up every social interaction causes a negative friendship reaction. In all my years of playing I have never been so frustrated by these relationships and have found myself resorting to cheats to get the relationships I want, which I shouldn’t have to do. 
My sims should be able to be friendly with another sim without it decreasing their relationship, my sims should be able to go a day without romancing their partner without having fears of cheating or abandonment and a drastic cut to their romance bar. 
I have had to change my game plans so many times because a lot of the times even after cheating a relationship it is impossible to maintain, as every friendship interaction causes a decrease. 
I’m not usually one to air my issues or suggestions out on these forums but i genuinely can’t deal with this problem anymore.
