logged in today again to do more troubleshooting. Triple checked mods were off. Tried playing in other 'kingdoms' in the new world in case the envoy that would never leave for some reason was the cause of the glitch, tried playing in other worlds, tried playing with this old save and doing the painting task on an easel that was placed before the update... nope. still bugged. 10/10 as always, Sims 4.
