I am having this same issue as well, I do not play with mods either. 🤦🏻♀️
To everyone:
If you play on computer you can shift click on the plants and change them to healthy by setting their moisture.
But I don't cheat much so that's only if you decide to use cheats.
Can also do this on console, I use keyboard/mouse
