Check baby interrupts all attempts to care for baby

Repost from AHQ thread (c/p)

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.96.365.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Seasons, cats and dogs, get together, discover university, free holiday, parenthood, toddler stuff, cottage living, strangeville, get to work,
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try using a parenting option (like feed or change diapers) for an infant that has more than one need in the red
What happens when the bug occurs? If an infant has two or more needs in the red, or one need red and one yellow, any attempts to actually resolve those needs will be repeatedly interrupted / canceled by “check infant” leading to a loop where you have to keep pausing to cancel the “check infant” as it appears, before it managed to cancel your attempts to actually solve the problem
What do you expect to see? If a parenting interaction is currently being used or queued, don’t auto cancel it to “check infant”. Generally, being less over zealous about the “check infant” effect.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I’ve tested with and without mods and this still happens. It is possible to get around this by pausing and canceling the check infant, but it won’t just appear once. It’ll keep coming back very frequently. Sometimes I have to cancel it 3x or more while just trying to walk across a room and put baby down in the high chair. It’s really disruptive.

  • EA should remove the check toddler/infant/baby from being actionable all together, when I have multiple babies, infants, toddlers the parents just lose all their queued actions to "check toddler/infant/baby" as soon as one of the needs hits the red and if I cancel it out I sometimes just get this constant stand around and do nothing "hesitation" in the sim because I cancelled the action and suddenly the sim is unresponsive because I cancelled the check toddler/infant/baby - a reset is required.  It's soooo frustrating to spend time queuing an action only for a "check toddler/infant/baby" to overwrite all the queued actions.  If I queue something I don't want the game auto "check toddler/infant/baby" to even appear but more importantly if I queue an item the "check toddler/infant/baby" should not push in front of my queued actions to begin with!  This really needs to be looked into because my favourite lifestage is the infants but having my large families is difficult when my sims keep dropping the queue to push the "check toddler/infant/baby" which just delays tending to the infant in the first place.  I've been playing single mothers for awhile because having a partner just makes the tending to the infant more difficult as the other parent interrupts my queued actions to "check infant".  I've pretty much given up on two parent households if I plan to have lots of children or I've played that the other parent has a job in the "city" that requires them to live in another household and just do stayovers when I want that parent around the kids.

In gameplay yesterday after updating the game, the father Sim notably stopped his assigned tasks outside the home, interrupted the mother Sim having tummy time with the infant Sim to pick the infant Sim up, put the infant Sim in the crib, take the infant Sim out of the crib, and hand the infant Sim to the mother Sim. I did not command the father Sim at all and find this very frustrating as I was commanding the mother Sim and the father Sim unprompted ruined efforts to teach and care for the infant Sim.

Both infant Sims starved while neither parent did anything. I had to cheat fill their hunger needs with fillmotive motive_hunger

Today I told my mother Sim to have tummy time with their infant Sim, they decided to instead put the infant in the crib, and then autonomously queue up "check on infant" so they unprompted took their infant to the crib and then took the infant out of the crib.

I also had the father Sim interrupt the other infant Sim's sleep to put them on the playmat, while the infant Sim's sleep is still half full.

It's also worth noting, neither parent responded to my request to put either infant in the high chair (I know the high chair works and I know the infants can sit in it, it worked with the same infant and chair yesterday) and let their children starve. Eventually the mother Sim did autonomously feed one of her infant Sims, but only one of them. I had to cheat the other infant's hunger need away.

After both of those events and twice having each infant Sim stuck to each parent's legs, I quit the game. It is very frustrating to play with infants when your Sims keep autonomously queueing these interactions.

The same father Sim again interrupted the (other) infant's sleep to take them outside, glitch, do a t-pose, and drop the infant Sim. Again the infant Sim only has half a bar of sleep (it is yellow) and was interuppted while sleeping.

This is making it impossible to achieve the "Slept Through the Night" milestone.

I'm not an expert, but the programming seems to have an issue with a string of if/then commands. If the dependent cries it triggers the "check dependent" command in all caretakers ques, but the program has to allow for each que to be fulfilled in turn before any other interactions can take place. Unless, an action is cancelled in a caretakers que, for example not being able to reach the baby because another caregiver is blocking the way. Once each que is fulfilled, interactions can continue, but if the baby cries again (which it does, because it was put down) it begins the process over again until the infant falls asleep without its needs being taken care of. This becomes a nightmare when the household has multiple dependents and caregivers and worse with the family oriented trait.

Currently I am unable to assist with any needs of the infants in my household. Parents while constantly check infants and put infants on the floor but will not take care of needs at all.
