I just downloaded the recent update earlier in the day 4/29/25, which I presumed automatically turned off mods though I do play with a few script mods like UI cheats, MCCC, BBB and a UI color mod.

Crashes on Mainmenu

Hi AdeptAmari
Could you try moving your saves folder to the desktop and see if it loads with no saves present ? There might be an issue with the preview on the main menu.
Make sure to save the new game. You can then move your saves back and use the load button to load your old save game.
Looks like this doesn't work. A new save game will work if you move the saves folder to the desktop. The issue is with something borking the existing ones. It might be an issue for modded games not having the proper mod but I don't know anthing beyond that and it's all speculation.
EDIT:
Seems some folks are having luck turning their mods back on.
Try the following to do so without starting the game
- Make sure the game is closed
- Open the file documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\options(.ini) with any text editor
- Find this line: modsdisabled = 1 and change it to modsdisabled = 0
- If you are using script mods, make sure scriptmodsenabled is also still set to 1
- Start the game and see if it works.

I performed the following steps:
・Moved save files to the desktop
・Removed MODs and tray files
・Deleted localthumbcache.package
After doing this, the game still crashes before reaching the main menu.
Additionally, updating my graphics drivers may have caused the game to switch from windowed mode to fullscreen unexpectedly. - gamefreaknai3 months agoRising Novice
I tried removing my save file, starting a new game and creating a new sim, saving that and then copy+pasting the files in my old save folder into the new save folder. No issues so far!

I noticed that onedrive destroyed my game. I disabled it, for my gaming. When I update my mod, MCCC, onedrive didn't update.
As there are several catalogs on my pc and in onedrive, I had to empty out all mods folders at first, and all saves.
I put it in a map on my screen. and started a new game. I know my save was broken, I had several nannies and several reapers on both home lots and at nightclub.
I put my mods in, I only use MCCC, I updated it first, And all clothes etc too, in my pc mods catalog. I play my game with my mod, but how do I know if I can put any of my saves back?
Thanks for your good work Cinrict

Hello new here, I am having the issue of crashing shortly after starting the game, I tried your suggestion above and can finally make it to main menu by removing my saves and starting a new sim, but unfortunately once I put my old saves back in and try to launch that, it crashes again. I have tried with either mods on or off and still no luck, Is this a bug related to the new update? These saves are 3000+ hours of work I can not loose them.

My game is already set to this. The current crashing issue is in a Maxis-created household that came with Businesses and Hobbies.
