I just downloaded the recent update earlier in the day 4/29/25, which I presumed automatically turned off mods though I do play with a few script mods like UI cheats, MCCC, BBB and a UI color mod.

That sounds different. The crashes are related to specific saves.
There's this old thread for lags when online: [CURRENT ISSUE] Incredibly Low FPS when connected to Internet | EA Forums - 11723027 although I haven't seen many reports lately.
I'm leaning towards it being an EA/EA app problem, since I don't have a problem with the game once it loads.
That's very possible too. Maybe post in the ea app forum or in pc tech.
