[DU] Cannot Switch Branch in Culinary Career With Mixology certificate

I have been frustrated that there is no way for my sim to become a Chef after having entered the Mixology branch via the Mixology Certificate. The sim I am playing is Romeo. I believe he came premade in the Culinary career, and he was in level before it branches off. I cannot remember if I had him quit his job before doing this or not, but I had him take classes to get the Mixology degree, then he joined the Mixology career.

Now he cannot quit see any options to join the Culinary career, which makes me sad since Romeo dreams of Juliet... and of being a Celebrity Chef. 🤩 <sigh> 😭

What I expect to see...
Once the sim quits a job from one branch of the career I would assume that if they look for a job again they should have the option to re-join the branch at a point below where the career branches off since he entered that branch via a certificate. If nothing else, since he entered that branch via a certificate, I would expect that once he quits he should still see the Chef Career option.

I have all packs and am fully updated on Mac. Vsn. 1.124.63.1220

'Removed Mods' note: I don't really consider this a possible factor, but I just popped in the UI Cheats mod very briefly quite a while ago.

  • lahawkin You certainly can do both branches of any career associated with a university degree.  Earning a degree gives you a leg up with careers and you start the career at lever 7 or 8 depending on the degree.  Then once you max that career, you can quit and go back to choose the career again, this time starting at the usual lower level (1-4) and then you work your way up to the choice level and choose the other side of the degree.    The key to making it work is paying attention when you choose your career after graduation.  Those careers will usually have 2 entries in the panel.  One is the normal start at lever 1-4 and the other will be specific jobs associated with your sim's degree that start at level 7 or 8 which are highlighted with red text when you look at them.  One thing you still need to do is the prerequisites/daily tasks (like the Scientist career still has eureka moments you have to complete for promotion and make serums).

    Hope this helps.

I was told that if I had Romeo (per my example in the initial post) go to university and get his Culinary Degree he will be able to enter the Chef branch then. Perhaps MapleSimmer or CGrant56 could confirm since that was the recommendation I got in our chat? I have him enrolled and in his first semester currently, so I cannot personally confirm yet.

Hi, you mentioned something about doing both branches if you get your degree from a Distinguished University.  Can you confirm that? I'm new to University play and I thought that it limited you to one branch?

  • I can confirm that my sim who got a mixology certificate and got a job as a mixologist using that certificate can not join the culinary career at the bottom when he quits his job as a mixologist, he can only rejoin as a mixologist.

While I know that if you choose a branch through gameplay you can not go down below that branch to go the other way, however, if you join a career using a university degree, you can either join a branch directly using the related degree or join the underlying career at the bottom, which lets you do both branches (one of the advantages of doing a degree in DU). I would think that a mixology certificate should work the same way as a degree as you earn it with DU; i.e. once you quit your career you should be able to rejoin the culinary career or rejoin the mixology branch.

Note that I have all the packs/kits and play on Windows 10 and am on game version  1.124.63.1020.

    Best regards,
    Jennifer
