My sims can play with emotion on the City Living keyboard, but not the grand pianos or upright pianos that come with base game or other DLC.
Actually, it works on the keyboard.
There was a bug report about it three years ago. After they fixed it, it no longer works on the pianos. They never needed to be repaired, just like I never need to repair a guitar or violin.
