Getting rid of ALL of my rental lots by changing them into residential or other non-rental lots seems to have halted the progression of the error in at least one of my saves so far. It didn't restore the lots that were already corrupted with the 800 error but no new ones have corrupted (that I've noticed) since I got rid of all rentals.
I did notice that when I was converting the lots to non-rental, changing them directly to residential didn't always stick. A lot of the time I'd get a hang when trying to save and/or the lot would still have the rental icon on the world map. Editing the lots a second time and changing them to residential again, or changing them to a non-residential lot type (like library) and then back to residential seemed to stick more reliably.
