It will soon be a full year since I last updated my game. Every major patch over the past year, including those intended to fix major bugs, has broken something else that I don't want to deal with. Overlapping festivals was one major example. Now it's this indoor weather bug. At this point, it's almost a given that when they eventually fix this bug, that same patch will break something else. I hope not because I'd actually like to be able to update and get the features that have been added to the game over the past year, like curved pools and CAS improvements. But right now, I can't do that, and that is 100% on EA.
Defending EA's lacklustre approach to bug fixes when they are the ones who raised our expectations in the first place is... a choice. Let's not forget that in May last year, they told us that this team would be tasked with fixing "technical issues" that affect the "core game experience." You would think that if this were indeed the goal, one crucial aspect of this would be to ensure that each patch does not introduce a new bug that affects the "core game experience." However, that does not seem to be the case. At this rate, they will forever be behind the 8 ball when it comes to major bugs.
One way to tell whether a specific aspect of the game is considered "core" is whether it appears in the game options. Like weather. On top of that, considering we have to pay to get the core feature of weather in this game, the fact that this bug has remained unfixed for so long is unconscionable. (Almost as unconscionable as continuing to not just sell, but actively promote For Rent when it straight-up corrupts people's saves — especially the treasured, years-long saves maintained by longtime players.)
This weather bug can be almost constant, depending on the world your sim lives in. It's distracting and annoying. I've even seen YT videos with this bug; content creators hate it too. And it's untrue that it "doesn't negatively impact gameplay." That may be true for some, but obviously not everyone. So many people here have said it's ruining their enjoyment of game or makes them not want to play at all; if that's not a negative gameplay impact, I don't know what is. Plus, at least some people have reported that they also experience effects such as sims feeling the heat or cold indoors. Ignoring these reports in order to brush off the seriousness of this bug is disingenuous.
I think it's wrong-headed at best to come into a bug forum and tell people to just turn off a core feature of their game and be satisfied with it being treated as "low priority" (which is an assumption anyway) despite the existence of a team specifically tasked to fix the "core game experience." This bug has been going on for 3 months and is still going. The overlapping festivals bug went on for many, many months. The save-breaking For Rent bug has been going on for almost a year and half. Communication about issues like this is spotty at best; there's very little transparency from EA on what's a priority and what's not.
So, all we can do as customers since we don't know how they prioritize (or decide to give up on) fixes is keep nagging them to fix this particular core bug. And they gave us a place to do it, so we will. The cheering section, on the other hand, is thataway ----> Sims 4 General Discussion.
I agree with you. Very well said. I do have weather turned off in my game, but I don't view it as a 'fix' by any means. It is merely a way for me to continue playing the game, since I'm in the middle of writing up what my Sims are doing. I even had my main Sim (character) reflect on the ongoing drought, as my way of coping, if you will. I don't know just why I love this game. I've been playing it since 2005, beginning with Sims2. Yes, bugginess is almost a trademark with EA at this point. I fear patches, (I play with mods). I have started and restarted certain saves when a patch totally implodes my game, or (as some will rightly suggest), when I wish to take these particular Sims through a new pack. I'm working very hard to not have to do that this time around. At least, not while I'm writing and sharing the story with others.
