Sims standing around instead of taking care of infant/toddler

Whenever I play with infants, I end up having a very unpleasant experience because they're so problematic. When I ask my Sims to perform an action with infants, they not only stand there for hours, but they also repeatedly take the infants out of their cribs and put them on the floor. This bug is quite old and has never been fixed, and I've noticed that several players are experiencing the same issue!

Note by crinrict:

There are currently many infant threads. This issue is about Sims standing around and not performing actions with Sims. This issue is tracked here and nothing else.

There's already other threads. Please pick the ones that fit your issue best to vote

Note from EA_Solaire:

We fixed a notable instance of Sims standing around and not caring for their infants. While holding Infants, Sims were playing an idle animation that delayed responsiveness to queued interactions. This idle was removed. We hope to further address additional Infant issues in future updates. (Base Game)

This is still happening in my game:

It happens super often in my game that my parent Sim does something completely unrelated to an infant (cooking, working out, heck, even trying to woohoo) and then suddenly the "Put <infant name> down" appears in their queue in addition to what they are currently doing. They then interrupt whatever they do, walk to the crib, pick up the infant, and put it on the floor. There is no reason for this, they are not even near the infant, sometimes they are on a completely different floor or outside the house fishing, and yet suddenly the action pops up for them. And even if you click the action away it just shows back up in your queue.

I own all packs and play without any mods.

Here a screenshot of this happening after the patch:

  • I know there are already some bug report about kids caring, but I was unsure which was the most appropriate post to make, so I created a new one. I apologize if there is a suitable one.

The links below records what happened. (I upload the recordings I make using the game's functions to Google Drive in their original state.)

    Repeating 'put down' - 01

    Repeating 'put down' - 02

    Situation explanation:
I made age up the babies to infant and I paused.
Then enter the CAS mode and change the infants clothes.
    Back to Live mode.
As soon as unpaused, Caleb started 'put down' his daughter. So I start record.
In the records, their almost behaviors are autonomously. I only gave to Caleb 'Admire New Possessions' and to mother 'Breastfeed'.
Eventually, their independent actions got in the way of each other, and they just stood there, frozen.
This continued for about a minute in the real time, then I stopped the recording and gave each parent instructions, and then another action triggered another 'Put Down' - the second link.

My game is always set 'Autonomy: Full'.

If Sims' thoughts are displayed in queue, I can delete those. But even after deleting, the Sims often stops working as if something is still in the queue. In this case, it difficult remove even after using 'Object Reset' to the entire family.

I'm playing on PC with no mods and have always had this issue. Today I was playing a family with two infants and the mother kept taking one out of the crib and putting him on the ground while he was crying for a nap. His brother took an entire nap in their dad's arms while I was trying to get the mother to "give infant a nap" or put him in the crib. I couldn't get her to do either. This was after 4 hours in game time trying to get one of them fed (everyone just kept picking him up and putting him down so I had to cheat needs). I rage quit at that point.

For the longest time, I just avoided playing with infants. Next time I log in, they're both being aged up instantly.

  • I have a problem, when I have to take care of my babies/toddlers, the parent Sims put them on the floor   or they place them on the ground outside or they place them on the ground outside. If you have any solutions to this problem, that would be great.

Sorry for my English, I don't know how to write it very well,
