This is still happening and some reports of this issue are 5 years old… I realize it’s not the most game-breaking bug, but I would rather not have to spend so much time deleting 80% of Japanese sims from my game because I want an actual spectrum of diversity, not just one single ethnicity. To clarify, the Asian names as mentioned in the initial report are specifically Japanese. I would love to find, say, a Korean sim, but it has never happened.
Also, I’ve noticed that the one world where this DOESN'T happen is Henford on Bagley. There must be some world-specific determiner for which names/ethnicities will spawn, and it’s only working correctly in a couple worlds. The result is that newly-generated active career coworkers, bartenders, and university roommates, to name a few, are almost all Japanese.
