[Mac] SimCity and MacOS Catalina & newer
Beginning with MacOS Catalina 10.15, Apple will no longer support 32-bit apps. SimCity is a 32-bit legacy game, and will not currently run on MacOS Catalina. If you purchased SimCity from the App Store, Aspyr currently plans to update SimCity to a 64-bit app. As far as we know, there are no plans by EA to change the SimCity app. If you purchased from EA and want to continue playing SimCity, you will want to do some planning before completing an update to Catalina. EDIT: Update for January 7, 2020: Aspyr has updated their version of SimCity: Complete Edition to 64-bit. It is now compatible with Catalina. There are a few choices for running SimCity on Catalina: Create a bootable external drive running macOS 10.14 Mojave or earlier Install a virtual machine running macOS 10.14 Mojave or earlier Boot camp your Mac and run SimCity in Windows (your EA purchased games allow you to run either Mac or PC versions) Be aware, if you're installing an earlier MacOS: Mojave 10.14.4 had reports of problems using HD and UHD resolutions. See This Thread for more info & how to force resolution in Advanced Game Options High Sierra 10.13 had multiple reports of problems crashing SimCity. See This Thread for more info If you have already upgraded to Catalina, you could also consider restoring to an earlier MacOS version or purchase the 64-bit SimCity application from the App Store. If you choose to purchase from the app store, be aware that you will no longer have access to any regions or cities on the EA servers. The Aspyr version is single player / offline use only. For more information, @Bluebellflora has written detailed instructions on how to accomplish each of the above solutions. Running 32-bit apps after macOS Mojave EDIT: As of Dec 21, 2019 Aspyr has listed their SimCity:Complete Edition version 1.0.3 as being 64-bit. Be aware that EA does not support the Mac App Store version. The App Store version is single player only. There is no access to multiplayer or any regions on the EA servers.SolvedBlackjackWidow6 years agoHero (Retired)87KViews27likes101Comments- Anonymous12 years ago67KViews7likes3Comments
[Mac] Mojave - Cursor & Display Resolution Problems
Since April 2019, some Mac users have reported problems playing SimCity. Symptoms include: Mouse cursor accuracy off - have to place the cursor above or below the intended target before being able to select Native Display resolution not available in settings Inability to play in full screen mode This appears to have happened due to the Mojave 14.4 update. Prior OS versions did not experience this problem, so Apple must have changed something in this update that has caused these issues to appear. EA is currently working with Apple on this issue. In the meantime, this thread has been created to gather information on which systems are affected. I will keep this post updated with any workarounds or fixes. Some users have reported these workarounds help with cursor accuracy and display resolution: Start the game in windowed mode: In Origin, right-click the SimCity icon and choose "Game Properties" > click the "Advanced Launch Options" tab > type "-w" (without the quotation marks) in the "Command Line Arguments" box. Launch SimCity and go to the Settings menu (upper right three dots). Choose the correct resolution for your screen in the graphics settings. Launch in windowed mode and force a lower resolution via command line: In Origin, right-click the SimCity icon and choose "Game Properties" > click the "Advanced Launch Options" tab > type "-w -r:1600x900" (without the quotation marks) in the "Command Line Arguments" box. Note: Use a resolution that your display supports. You can test which resolutions work best for you. Some examples: -r:1600x900 -r:1024x768 -r:1920x1080 Adjust Display settings to get a better experience in windowed mode: System preferences > Display > select Scaled, choose one of the options that makes the window bigger (thanks @12345iseeu for the suggestion) Launch full screen forcing the display resolution via command line: In Origin, right-click the SimCity icon and choose "Game Properties" > click the "Advanced Launch Options" tab > type "-r:1920x1080" (without the quotation marks) in the "Command Line Arguments" box. Match the resolution to the current display settings on your monitor, using the format "-r:HHHHxRRRR" For instance, -r:2560x1440 -r:1920x1080 -r:1600x900 If you are experiencing these problems on a Mac, please post the information requested below, and click the Me Too button on this post. @Bluebellflora wrote: Could you clarify a couple of things for me to see whether I can help as a fellow Mac user: Please can you provide more information about your Mac. Purchased from EA through Origin or from Aspyr through the App Store? I have both versions installed so can test whichever one you are using. I also have access to a Thunderbolt Display so can check on a second display.SolvedBlackjackWidow6 years agoHero (Retired)62KViews12likes82Commentssimcity-black screen

Had a meltdown, and its been over a year. Does the Radiation ever go away?Anonymous12 years ago41KViews0likes24Comments[PC] SimCity hangs or won't launch on Windows 10
Are you having trouble launching SimCity? Does it hang on launch? Or the program reduces to the taskbar and won't open on Windows 10? This is usually something blocking the exe from reaching the Internet. Make sure your firewall and antivirus are not blocking SimCity.exe, and that it is added to the exception lists. I know when mine updates, it occasionally likes to change settings for no good reason. If you have BitDefender installed, disable it. Check the *Controlled Folder Access setting in Windows Defender (**see below instructions) If you have any mods installed, remove them Make sure your graphics drivers are updated to the most recent version. If you have the sound program Nahimic 2 from MSI installed, disable or uninstall it. Set the desktop icons to run SimCity.exe and Origin.exe as administrator In Origin, right-click SimCity icon, Game Properties, check the box that says "Disable Origin In-game" Set the SimCity desktop icon to run in Windows 7 or 8 compatibility mode. If none of these work, try a clean boot and attempt to launch SimCity. If it launches, you'll have some detective work to do, enable one startup program at a time, reboot, try SimCity, until you find the program that is blocking it. Once you find the offending program, disable or uninstall it. You should be able to launch SimCity. If you find a program that was blocking SimCity, please reply here and let us know. I'll add it to the list to help others. **Changing Window's Defender - Controlled Folder Access settings Thank you @doubleofficialm @doubleofficialm wrote: Hey there, I was experiencing simillar issue with SimCity for 2 days. Behaviour: I installed Origin along with Simcity after trying to turn it on, there was displayed Simcity logo but it didnt run as well, it gets back to the origin. So I was not able to see any error or anything because even launcher wasnt turned on as well. Resolution: Issue was caused by Windows Defender feature called - "Controlled folder access". Check if you have turned it on, if yes simply turn it off just by following these steps: 1. Open the Windows Security, and click/tap on the Virus & threat protection icon. 2. Click/tap on the Manage ransomware protection link under the Ransomware protection section. 3. Turn On or Off (default) Controlled folder access for what you want. 4. Click/tap on Yes when prompted by UAC to approve. 5. Simply close the Windows Security and let's play! Hope it helps. 🙂SolvedBlackjackWidow7 years agoHero (Retired)38KViews5likes9CommentsCan't play SimCity - city won't load, hangs in load screen
Have read multiple forums, spoken with tech support and now here I am. This game is riddled with bugs, and now to top it off, I can't play it at all. The reason for the new post is because I can't play at all. All other related threads are about people not being able to get the game to load, or about not being able to play a specific city. I can get the game to load, but can't play any city at all. My SimCity updater works fine and connects to servers. I can then go through the menu screen and select a city to play. It then runs through all the loading (reticulating spleens etc.) but never actually gets into the city. Here's what I've tried (from other threads): Restart game Restart computer Swap servers Try playing a private game Run repair install Run SimCity Recovery App Reinstall SimCity Wait for it (to apparently connect to the servers) for 3 hours Remove contents of UserData folder (can't even play the tutorial after doing this) None of this has worked, so enlighten me... what next? Should I give up and just say that it was well worth the money for a box with a shiny plastic disc inside?Anonymous12 years ago38KViews20likes28Comments- Anonymous12 years ago37KViews1like5Comments

How do I upgrade roads on simcity 5 without destroying the existing road and all the buildings on it?
Title says it allAnonymous12 years ago35KViews0likes5CommentsHow do I disable the Cities of Tomorrow Expansion for SimCity?
I just purchased the SimCity Plus pack because of the recent sale and am just getting started. The thing is I'm already seeing my residents popping up in futuristic homes with laser fences and the like, without even asking me if I wanted to utilize any future technology. Is there any way to disable, at least temporarily, the expansion? I figured I'd get both because it was a good deal but I want to get started with just the basic game.SolvedAnonymous11 years ago33KViews5likes17Comments
