Re: Sims 4 stuck on update loop

@Bugluvr  What antivirus do you use?

If you want to play while waiting to fix this issue, you can put Origin into offline mode, and then the Update button should change to Play.

@puzzlezaddict Also, the play option does appear and I guess tries to launch the game when I press it but then the origin screen comes back up as if it failed to launch.
  • @Bugluvr when you reinstalled origin, did you use the Origin reset tool for mac? It can make a big difference. (your post got placed in PC issues, but it should be in Mac issues)
  • @DeanXeLI didn’t realize, I apologize! I was originally looking at someone with a similar issues and I guess made a topic in the pc section like they did.

I tried the origin reset tool and the issue still persists.

Just to be clear, you now get the Play button in Origin and can click it to start the game, Origin minimises to the Dock but then pops back up again and the Sims 4 fails to load? If this is correct, please move the Sims 4 folder from Documents > Electronic Arts to your Desktop and then try to launch the game.

No, it still says update. Someone told me I could play offline but when I try that it says play and doesn’t actually let me start the game.

When I’m online update still appears and gets stuck in the loop

Can you create a new user account on your Mac and see if you can play in that account? It sounds like permissions may be an issue in your current account. Quick and simple test it to create the new account. Make sure you allow all access for the game and Origin in the new account when prompted.

I made another account and the same thing happens. Im pretty sure I gave origin and the game full access as well. Could it be my laptop causing this issue ?

Might be a problem with your laptop yes. Can you go into System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Full Disk Access and provide a screenshot of the settings you have for Origin and The Sims 4. Please also do the same for Preferences > Security & Privacy > Files & Folders.
