Doing so might enhance their gameplay, but it screws their squadmate's games. It's a TEAM game, not a solo game. Asking them to chill for 15-30 seconds isn't too much.

ETA: If they want to play like that, there's also the option to not fill the squad in the lobby.  There just isn't a valid excuse for it.

Well, the way the game is "intended" might vary per player.

It's not like a playstyle should be enforced, especially if any other playstyle is going to be punished.

However, frequently leaving matches should result in some form of punishment, particularly for Apex as it's a BR game which doesn't have any form of backfill, meaning the impact on the match can be significant.

Personally I feel like those who don't play in a premade kind of consent to the fact that there will be some players that won't be playing as expected.

Now, I'm not saying that anything goes, these issues should of course be resolved.

Though a system to work against these types of players... well, let's just say it might take quite some time to tune it well, as I'm sure there are many players that might be against this change.

You could try to play with a premade squad instead of relying solely on the matchmaker to find teammates. This way, you will be able to avoid any potential issues with other players.

Exactly as you mentioned - there's no backfill, so just DC'ing immediately screws your squad and then their experience playing the game. And it's not like there is no alternative - If you want to queue in fast, hot drop in the biggest fire rinse & repeat fine. Queue solo. They're not playing as a team anyways.

I feel the opposite - if you're checking the box to fill Squadmates, you're consenting to play as a squad.

10 minute ban from matches would seriously curtail the practice. Permanent ban number could be higher, a number like 20 is pretty forgiving.

It's just that when it comes to punishing players, well, let's just say it can go massively wrong.

Well, if this is going to become a thing, I'd say that it's probably better to start with a high treshold and move from there to see after how many matches in a certain time period should result in that

@reconzeroI play no fill all the time. I never have a 10 minute wait for a queue. The longest it goes is 2 or 3 minutes usually. If you queue with a team and do your own thing the majority of the time while being annoyed I say just no fill.

If you're checking the box to fill squadmates it's because you're not willing to wait 10 minutes for a match.

And careful with the whole "consenting to play as a squad" thing. That means different things to different people and you might easily find yourself the object of someone else's ire for a failure to imagine the game as they imagine it.

Yeah, the matchmaking complaint that @Gator762FMJ has comes from the same root cause as you and I have noted in the past - the Matchmaking doesn't consider preferred play style at all. And I assume it never will because of they way they gather and sort matchmaking data surely doesn't factor in a desire to play it slow and careful vs W-Key Leroy Jenkins plays.

The solution to this issue, as noted, would be for each account to have a screen were they can fill out matchmaking preferences. It would have questions like,

• 'Hot Drop'?
• Aggressive?
• Stealthy?
• Careful?
• Long Range engagements
• Mid Range engagements
• Short Range engagements
• Loot then Fight?
• Prefer Kills over Placement?

And each would have a yes/no setting you could toggle. Then you can leave it, or change it up here and there based on what you are looking for.

Then, the matchmaking would, also considering your SBMM stats, consider these answers to try to squad you up with like minded players.

If they actually did this, I might consider coming back.

I prefer late drops, away from the bloodbath.
Gather gear then get ready for whatever may happen.
Use critters as target practice, EVO shield levelling, and crafting material income.
Hit certain areas for summoning gold gear bubbles.
Max out Longbow and armor.
Get an L-star.
Make ambushes.
Find hiding spots so you can respawn your ally in duos 3 times, collect their banner again, then get plastered trying to get closer to the respawn beacon because you are 285 meters of 200 from the beacon, and the final squad is between you and the beacon. As Crypto, mostly using the drone.
That was yesterday.
But yes, late drop, stealth, and sniping are my playstyle.

What I was trying to say, and clearly failed, is that it's perfectly okay for someone to have better aim than me. The problem occurs when, in a game with such a wide skill gap, my opponent has aim from distance that is bordering on 100% accuracy with a gun that I know for a FACT does not operate at any range other than close up no matter what scope you have.

I know I like to pose as a "mediocre" player, and in many respects I am, aim being one of them... but I'm also experienced enough to know when an opponent is verging from "better than me" to "way better than me" to "not really sure what he just did is even possible." And I don't really gripe about facing off against ANY of those other players unless it's the latter and unless it's an entire lobby of them for ten lobbies in a row. And that's rarer an occurance than I sometimes make it out to be.

"You wanna hit more targets? Then get better." This is missing the point. It SOUNDS as if you're saying that you want Apex to be built around the experience of superior players, and that anyone who doesn't like that merely needs to BECOME a superior player. Am I mis-reading you on this?

@XHelperZYeah, a ban might be too much.

An idea hit me though, they could increase the penalty by a minute every time you DC right after being knocked without letting the timeout go. Heck even start the penalty off light at 1 minute with the notification telling you why, and that it increases a minute every time you do it.

Slow learners will either get the message it's a squad based game or get really long queue times. 🙂

@Unitee01  You're clearly not paying that close attention here, except for when you seek out @reconzero  and I to tell us how we play the game wrong and are having bad wrong fun.

If you were paying attention, you'd realize I have uninstalled from PC months ago (shortly after Catalyst release) and play so little on PS4 that I have yet to unlock a character on it that was not given out free from an anniversary.

rEAspawn made it clear they don't want casuals with their matchmaking, and I in fact did leave for games that better respect my time.

And how freaking slanted the few matches I have played on PS4 this season, how utterly destroyed those lobbies were by one or 2 players (you know, lobbies that should be around level 20) tells me the churn is getting really bad and the game is now mostly Types 1, 2, and 3.

And it totally is rEAspawn's matchmaking, because I can play Crucible and Gambit in Destiny 2 and while I don't get the top kills on my team, I am always able to contribute at least double digits.

@reconzeroI do that all the time. I prefer stealth over bloodbath. I have one of those device/internet setups that are trash for competitive gameplay and it tends to cost me dearly in full on fights.
I take great sniper positions and I can deal plenty of damage while my city-dwelling allies go in and finish them off.
I'm rural, I live in the woods. Best plan available out here is 15Mb DSL. Can't wait for the Gb-Fiber in over two years.
Anyways, I rely on my allies to win. I can do well with snipers but close quarters is a meat grinder against me.
Lately though, I've found I'm better at jumping in with NewCastle to keep my allies alive or revive them in the midst of battle.
Jump on them with Castle Wall, deploy that drone, start reviving, and they can touch us unless they bust one of the 3 corners of my setup that's protecting us as I revive my ally. Be it a portion of Castle Wall, some of my drone's shield, or my revive shield.
So some of the issues some people may experience is about the tech a person has or is available to them. Like mine. Until more is available for my area there's nothing I can do about it.

Oh right. Stealth has lead me to victory, or at least close to, several times. Bloodbath always limits me to 16th or less.
So should Bloodbath lovers and stealth lovers que together or separate?
Together, as is now, broods a lot of hate. Separate would make it more enjoyable, as bloodbath lovers wouldn't ruin the game for the stealth lovers.
