Re: Potential Roommates Never Show Up

That's an excellent suggestion @SheriGR 🙂 I still have not been able to get any random applicants to act on my Roommates Wanted ads. I've tried cancelling and starting new ads, I've tried both travelling off lot and staying put. I even tried moving to a new location but that did not help either, plus in the process I lost the roommate I already had. The house my Sim is currently living in has 3 bedrooms (with 4 beds) with my Sim as the lone occupant. There are no lot traits on the lot. There shouldn't be any issue with the house or lot. I still get plenty of random visitors, usually 2 to 4 every day, so there should not be any routing problems. Typically the visitors are friends or acquaintances; however, on other occasions they are NPC strangers, but none of them are ever tagged as Potential Roommates. Am I missing something there? Should I be seeing this tag for random applicants?

While I am wishing that this part had worked out better so far, I am not at all disappointed with the Roommate system overall. I am able to directly ask other Sims to be a roommate with no problems whatsoever. I had zero issues with my old roommate (either by something I was doing right or by just plain luck) and in every way she acted just like I was hoping a roommate would act. She's still a homeless NPC in my game so I do have the option of asking her again to be a roommate, which I think I might just go ahead and do. It might be interesting to see if she'll still be a happy roommate the second time around and in a new location. I'll also probably just go ahead and ask another homeless NPC to be a 2nd roommate. I am very curious to see how having multiple roommates will work out & at this point asking someone directly seems to be the only way I will ever get another roommate.

@RandomBuzziness Well, this stuff is definitely interesting! I had 3-4 roommates at the same time okay - I was just at my 10 sims limit. I had one leave  a couple of times and just put the ad back up, called them on the phone and invited them over and re-asked them again.

I have been playing another of my households and put an ad in for a roommate over the last couple of days. I'm waiting for a particular sim to come or walk by, but I have had several a day turn up at or in the house that were marked as 'Potential Roommate'.

So weird. Do you have all beds assigned to sims (check by hovering over the bed to see if the assignment stuck - I find it usually takes several times of assigning for some, which is annoying)? Maybe you could try adding a private room with the bed, desk, dresser and bedside table and leave that for the ad applicant?

@SheriGR I have only one Sim in my current household, no pets or other family members. She has an assigned bed in one of the bedrooms, it is a double so for roommate purposes this still counts as two beds. In each of the other two bedrooms there is an unassigned single bed, a desk, a nightstand, and a dresser. So that's four beds for just one Sim! I can't imagine there could be any issue there. I know I am not the only one having this problem so I am not overly concerned.

I have been playing this particular Sim for quite a while now for several other projects. Maybe for some odd reason the problem is not with the houses but are actually with her. I think my best bet is to go ahead and add two roommates by asking them directly and then trying the random roommate method again with a different, fresh household & see if my results are the same or if they'll be different.

@RandomBuzziness You make a very good point that since there are obviously issues that many are having getting (and keeping) roommates it's a good plan to not be concerned and to basically go with what's working for now. And you have had some great success with your roommates. 🙂
