Only rain in Brindleton Bay

So I know this has been discussed before but I hereby request:

Hello there Sims team, would you take into consideration tuning down the thunders and rainy weather in Brindleton Bay?

My reasoning behind this: I'm playing with 4-week months, it's currently summer and I just experienced a week where it was thunder Every Single Day of the week. (We can only see the weather forecast for one week ahead in the calendar.. In retrospect had I seen the whole summer forecast I'd probably have moved somewhere else)  My toddlers and pets are miserable all the time. Doesn't feel like a sim life worth living for, poor critters. During the 4-week summer I've had about 5-6 days of nice weather. I think it is fun to have different weather conditions in different worlds but I think this is a bit too extreme in BB. I'm not saying it should be sunny all the time, I'm just saying I'd rather have it tuned down some.

I don't know what the current stats are but let's say if there was a 55 % chance of rain in BB it would still feel like a pretty rainy world but we'd still have some nice days too. It's really at a point where it doesn't feel like realistic at all.

Kind regards,

A rain-loving pet enthusiast simmer.

Yeah, the weather is some worlds can be rather harsh and I agree with you, some of them could use a little toning down.  But there is a way in game to deal with the weather when you get tired of whatever the weather is.  Just buy a Dr. June's weather machine for the lot and fully upgrade it.  Then you can change the weather (and season) more to your liking so you don't have to play the game with weather you get tired of or just don't like.

One thing about the weather machine though, is that it does not hold it's settings so you will need to reset it whenever you return from travel or on load in to the lot when you restart the game.

    Hope this helps.

  • @siirysiir You can try disabling thunderstorms in your weather settings in the Game Options menu. This not only eliminates most thunderstorms, but it seems to cut down on the overall number of rainy days too. You'll still see thunderstorms on Mystery Weather days, but those are fairly rare for Brindleton Bay summers, plus they typically last only a few hours instead of an entire day (or an entire week!). I use this setting and this is a sample of the weather I get for a summer week in Brindleton Bay:

Two days of some rain and five days of sun. This is typical in my game for Brindleton Bay with thunderstorms disabled. I also use the 28-day seasons, so it seems like I get a little bit more rain early in the summer and less rain towards the end. You can always reenable the Thunderstorms at any time, like if you wish to do some Dracula's castle scenario in Forgotten Hollows or something and Vlad wants some lightning ;-D

I love playing Brindleton Bay, it's my favorite place in the game. Especially in the fall and winter. I hope this all works out for you, it's such a lovely world to play.

@siirysiir  I love Brindleton Bay; it's one of my favorite worlds! but yeah, the weather in summer is AWFUL. The weather machine or having a mermaid in the house helps a lot, or, as @RandomBuzziness  suggested, turning off thunderstorms.

  • Hiya and thank you for all the suggestions you lovely folks!

I'm aware of the weather machine and the option to turn the stormy weather off. For my play style I wouldn't often use the weather machine since it's not a very realistic device and for this specific save it just kinda doesn't suit the world I've built. And as for the option to turn it off - this is the more feasible option in my mind but it's Quite The Hassle to keep toggling it on and off again since I play rotationally and this means changing not only households but worlds too. Also I would like the occasional thunder since it's definitely part of summer and therefore I wouldn't want to get completely rid of it. Just not all thunder all week please!

What I was hoping for was a more pleasant playing experience where I don't need to go back and forth with weather settings just because some world has its weather tuning too extreme. I am saying that in comparison to other worlds BB is too much, it's off-balance and that's something I think could be addressed by the devs. Maybe it's just me but in my opinion they didn't do a great job with how the weather is functioning in BB and I'm hoping it could be adjusted since it seems to be an exception among other worlds where the balance between different weather conditions is better and successfully portrays different local climates.

I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest to the dev team to rethink Brindleton Bay weather since I'm pretty sure minor adjustments would go a long way. Weather variation seems balanced to me in other worlds and I'm sure it could be in Brindleton Bay too.

@siirysiir  Another suggestion I've heard, which might not work for rotational play, is to play shorter seasons. Bad weather lasts a shorter time during a shorter season because it gradually changes between seasons. (If I'm playing four or more households I want four week seasons, darn it!)

I think it's a reasonable suggestion! but I also suspect they have so many things on their plate that they might not get to it.  ☹️

@xochiquetzl_xkvn hmm I see, shorter seasons make sense but yeah, because I have so many households I want long seasons. Oh welp.

There's so many issues with the game right now but I still feel it's important to ask for more, ask for a better game! I want the devs to know what we want and what are the issues we have with gameplay. I think this goes to the category of breaking immersion and those are the kind of issues that make me want to play less and invest less in this game.
  • The rain in Brindleton Bay is so annoying, and for me, without the rain it is the laggiest homeworld. And then when it's raining 24/7 it makes the game unplayable when living/visiting there.

If you play with vampires often, like me, living in Brindleton Bay is sometimes helpful because it's often cloudy so vampires can go outside in the day unharmed, but the rain and the thunderstorms are pretty excessive...

@SianAF148 I'd agree with the vampire part BUT since they're these powerful (theoretically) immortal beings, why are they scared of the thunder too? I wish they were more fearless than your average sim.. Seems silly that Vlad is spooped by a little rain and lightning ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To be honest, I think only kids and toddlers should be scared of thunderstorms.

@SianAF148 Yes! And they should have some variation: wild toddlers maybe wouldn't be that afraid or would only occasionally get the moodlet. Adventurous children should obviously be less likely to be afraid of the thunder too and generally there should be some random variation to the strength of the moodlet in all children.
