Apex Theory On Assimilation

This new event seems to have a lot of hidden stuff behind its idea and cosmetics. The first thing most of us know is the "Don't believe Hammond" message that's in the event description. You probably also noticed the skins are becoming more and more robotic. But did you see that life line animation present on most guns? Did you see the "Assimilated" charm?

So here's my theory. The legends can actually die, but then they are regenerated, just like the best pilots from Titanfall. The problem, though, is that the flesh body, the human form has many limitations and results in a difficult and expensive repair process for the Apex game owners. So here comes Hammond Robotics offering to cover these costs in exchange for more control over regeneration and to be the exclusive supplier of prosthetics, weapons and other parts. But, Hammond have their own agenda. Their weapons have hidden devices that record a lot of data from the legend that uses them. That data is used for smart prosthetics, which now, that they have more control over the games, they push as enhancements for the legends, keeping them in a more humanized form (if compared to simulacrums) to not raise too much controversy. However, these prosthetics have the role to completely assimilate the legends over time, turning them into immortal killing machines in Hammond's full control.

But why does Hammond need such powerful robots in these times of peace? Well... I think it's all linked to Hammond Engineering's founder. He is the creator of the MRVN (hmm, why is Pathfinder, an enhanced MRVN, asking about his creator?). Hammond's son mentions him to be working on an independent project related to "synthetic biology"(Regeneration? Legend clones used for respawning? Big hmmm!). As of late, his fate is unknown, some say he died due to very old age, others that he's frozen, but a grunt in Titanfall says "I hear Hammond is frozen, and his brain is attached to a computer somewhere around here". Well, what if, during Hammond's quest for immortality, he got assimilated by his project which became sentient, and now the AI runs Hammond Robotics? What if AI wants to take over humanity and has started preparing an army? What are they so thirsty that they destroy planets to harvest for energy, hmm?

Now, thanks for listening and, before you take off the tinfoil hats, look at the System Override "Assimilated" charm: it's a robotized skull, with red light eyes. Skynet Terminator much?

  • That's an interesting theory,+xp for the effort put into it. I did get a heavy simulacrum vibe from the skins.

As for the skull charm...is this not just a likeness of the skull that revenant carries in one of his banner poses?

Sure, it might be Revenant's skull, but why? Why is this robot "death"? 🙂

    Rev's Skull in game:

  • @DoYaSeeMe I like it.

I feel like If you take another step back from it, Hammond is trying to slide into the void left after the IMC was defeated. They were an IMC subsidiary in the Titanfall days, and could very well be the shadow arm of a newly reformed IMC faction.

I think that the apex lore were witnessing is the sparking of the frontier war 2. If Respawn doesn't use Apex to build up within the shared universe to Titanfall 3 it will be a massive missed opportunity.

@blkarmphoenix My thoughts exactly. Apex backstory could plant some seeds for a future Titanfall.

I wonder if the legends that got legendary skins in System Override are the ones Hammond already (or almost) assimilated completely. Or maybe it's us who decide how the story goes, through the ratio of robotic / non robotic skins equipped.

@DoYaSeeMe Apex in itself is already a prequel or sequel to TF3. I’ve yet to see an arc that’s been made in a game in a universe of another game that doesn’t have a direct link. Unless the company of course goes belly up.

I think Apex is basically a lore adder for the next TF but not heavily reliant on what the next TF will do
