I played an apex knockoff today. Can they be sued?
I downloaded a game from Steam called Farlight 84, and it is completely stolen from Apex Legends. It even has the exact same maps as Olympus and Kings Canyon only they call them different names.
The mechanics are the same such as jumpslides, shield level ups with choosing skills, and though the physics feels like moonwalking it is clearly stolen from Apex. The lootboxes, magazines, and even guns are the same just with different names.
The thing is, most functions don't work, so I imagine it was coded by an amateur who couldn't get everything to work right. Like when reviving a knocked teammate it tells you to click the same button Apex does, but nothing happens and the person just bleeds out. Same with looting death boxes, nothing happens when you click the button it tells you to.
It also has zip lines in shafts and between buildings like apex.
While this is obviously not serious competition to apex considering most features don't even work, it is still enough like apex to be copyright infringement. Is there a way I can send a link to the game to EA and Respawn? I'll also contact Steam about it.
My anti-virus already found something suspicious in the program so I should probably get an expert to look at my pc.
Anyway, you never know what weird stuff you're going to come across these days, lol.
