I have a weird perspective on this, and do want to first say...technically, the gun should stay the same because it was paid for.
There's a realism sort of problem here, though, and that is...a game balance issue. The main reason I don't care so much about this is because I really do not think the gun sights are so massive an advantage as to absolutely alter the trajectory of your performance. Okay, in a game, maybe. Will the old Flatline make you the next esport superstar? No. And besides, if you are, I bet you might just have this gun, plus be still good at what you do despite the update.
See, this is where I think Respawn loses its mind. Instead of solving real problems with the game, they obsess over nonsense like Flatline sights and Gold Knockdown shields. The focus on these things is what makes them bad at what they are doing right now, not the actual change itself. So rather than sit here and argue whether the Flatline sights should have been changed or not (and probably they shouldn't have been), is less important that the argument of:
What does Respawn focus on when trying to balance its game?
This right here is the problem. Aside from stepping on a potential land mine of making older users unhappy, or the landmine of potential new users griefing over no longer being able to get the gun (and frankly, with economics involved, I'm surprised the thing hasn't been offered up for sale again, it isn't like they ever promised if you get a BP gun, someone might not be able to buy it in the future), Respawn is totally focused on the wrong thing.
You'd think they'd fix the ranked problem, or say their sound problems. I see they are working on anti-cheat, sort of. How about the way worse problems of their character imbalance? But no, here we are, once again, in a bitter battle over something that may matter, but probably matters a whole lot less than if you can hear an approaching enemy or not.
RIP proper focus on what matters.
