Why is there a kill cap in ranked

Isn’t the whole point of ranked to play with people of your skill level and place you in the tier that you deserve?

well how’s that going to work when each game only counts 5 kills and no more, with a system like that it’s going to judge players who get 5 kills per game as the same level as players who are dropping 20 kills per game leading to incorrect matchmaking as the best players are stuck in the lower tiers for a lot longer which risks paring them with lower level players who ordinarily would get a few kills per game, leading them to level up, but since they’re being paired with ex predator squads who are being forced to very slowly ascend the ranks they’re just being absolutely stomped on every game

how is that matchmaking? The average players can’t be accurately judged on their skill if they’re constantly up against the best players, and the best players can’t be accurately judged on their skill if they’re just going up against lower level players every game

  • @Bean2kay9 I think they did it as they want placement to be critical but I agree with you, there should be no kill cap.
  • @Bean2kay9 “ Isn’t the whole point of ranked to play with people of your skill level and place you in the tier that you deserve?” Where’d you hear this? Ranked is so that you can learn the joys of camping in a game that doesn’t know which direction it wants to go. They want you to sit in one building still with white or no armor even if 10 mins have gone past just so you can say “Yes, I made it to top 10, now lets see if I can do top 5 camping”.

Thats what ranked is about. Not playing with equals XD
  • 100% the reason they have a limit on kills is because if you reach your desired placement too quickly, there's no incentive to actually keep playing ranked. With a kill cap you have to sit there and tiredly play out every single game for better yield on points. Thus meaning you'd have to play more games and play Apex for longer and longer.

They care more about player retention and keeping people playing, rather than pushing quality updates that make people WANT to keep playing. Another Bandaid on a problem that they've created, not us.

  • @Bean2kay9 Agreed on this one. Plus the fact that if you don't play ranked for a season, you will most likely end up in bronze. Imagine a predator is going through all these low tiers, that's called lawful smurfing :D

I would actually say this is in there to try to stop smurfs. Whether it will work or not is another story

Technically a kill cap HURTS smurfs. I've use a smurf acct before to play with friends who hadn't made it to plat yet. The kill cap stopped me from leveling my smurf account too quickly and I was able to use it for a long time before reaching plat with it.

Apex devs are the worse at listening to their community. We've told them plenty of times that people play Apex for frags, not placement. It's why EVERYONE pushes every fight they hear. But they don't care, they want Apex to be a survival game. A kill cap is just asinine in Apex.

  • i think in general the battle royale genre favors those who play the ring well, we saw this with fortnite. Some of the top win ratios were people who played ring instead of going for frags, i think this is mostly because respawn is trying very hard to make apex a Battle royale and to stick to the aspects of the genre, Inheriently Battle royales are survival games and frankly titanfall is a better game if you like going for frags.

@MrZwitz If you play apex for kills that is up to you. I do not. I like to get some but at the end of the day I prefer winning. I clutched 2 endings tonight with friends and both were a rush.
