I have 202 hours on Xbox Apex, no idea what level I am but I got it when it came out and played a bunch, clearly, I have not played the game in years until today. Before they had merging I played on Steam for 96 mins until level 5 but was over it without all the characters. At some point I linked my accounts but every time it boots on Steam its the crappy level 5. Why? I will try and boot up my xbox one and see if that data is even there

they were abosolutely no help at all. they said my xbox account was linked to a different EA account i have that has nothing on it from what i can tell. no purchase history or anything. at least.
but when i tried to link it anyways it said this
Your accounts can’t be linked because your Xbox account already linked to your EA Account for gmail An EA Account can only be linked to one Xbox account in its lifetime.
so how could i have linked it to a different EA account

They were both still connected so I do not see how that is possible. I unlinked the steam and removed apex from my steam account. My Xbox is old and slow so currently installing apex again to see if that will make a difference. Though from what you're saying it sounds like by linking my steam i lost my Xbox progress

It sounds like when you linked your accounts, you might've unintentionally unlinked that 202-hour account from the EA account it was initially linked to, which would explain the missing progress per the third cross-progression scenario here.
For context, progress is stored on the EA account level, not on individual platforms like PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, etc. Because of that, if you link your platform to a different EA account after the merge, you'll lose access to that progress and will need to re-link your platform to its original EA account to try restoring any missing progress.
