Account Merged did not select higher level account

Merged my PC account with my PSN account, only to have it select the level 20 something account as the primary and not the level 200+ account with several hundred of cosmetics and hours in the game. EA Support chat is telling me to just start over and fork over more money. Is there any other actions to take other than legal action

I have the transaction records from my "lost account" I would even be okay with that premium currency being added back to my new account since my old account was allegedly "lost" and "not recoverable"

  • Heya,

By "Merging your PC Account with your PC Account", do you mean that you linked your PSN account to a different EA Account?
Keep in mind that all data related to in-game progress is stored on the EA Account, so if you were to link a platform account (e.g., Steam, PSN, Xbox, etc) to a different EA Account than it was originally linked to, it won't bring over any data.

When cross progression was rolling out, they had to merge data from those different platform accounts, at that point in time it would select the highest level account from the platform accounts linked to the EA Account. Since cross progression has rolled out fully, this means all accounts have already gone through this process.

In your case it sounds like that you either linked your Steam or PSN account to a different EA Account than it was originally linked to, meaning you would lose access to the progress you had made on the EA Account that they were linked to before. All you have to do to get access to your progress again, is to link that platform account that you relinked to a different EA Account, back to the EA Account it was originally linked to.

    Hey GodxEater1997,

Sorry for the concern here, as it sounds like you had quite a bit of progress on that PSN account.

The issue here is that there's no way to merge content from two different EA accounts. Unfortunately, it sounds like that was a misunderstanding. Cross progression allows you to access the content on a single EA account from the platforms linked to that same account. It does not let you copy or merge progress from one EA account to another.

The content you were accessing from that PSN account would have been left behind on its previous EA account when you unlinked it, because that progress is stored at the EA account level, not on individual platforms like PSN or Steam.

This is essentially how that would look:

EA account 1 - PSN account, Account 1 progress
EA account 2 - PC account, Account 2 progress

If you move your PSN account, you then have this:

    EA account 1 - Account 1 progress
EA account 2 - PC account, Account 2 progress, PSN account

There is not a way to move that progress between accounts, although if you were to re-link your PSN to that original account, you may be able to access the content again. There's always a chance that link is permanently damaged and will leave the progress inaccessible or cause other issues whenever you unlink, but re-linking would be the only way to try recovering that progress.

Our support would not be able to transfer progress or grant content to a different account, but if you run into any issues re-linking they should be able to help get your PSN back to its original EA account.

    I’ve unlinked the accounts.

PSN just prompts me to log in to an EA account which I no longer have anything linked to.  Support has been unhelpful.  I just don’t understand why the account merging process selected the level 20 account to keep over the level 200 account. The account merger selected the wrong account and I’m the one being punished for it.

There has to be something that can be done other than “Sorry, your 600+ hours of playtime and $700+ of micro transactions is lost due to an error with our tool but at least you can give us more money now!”

    Hey GodxEater1997,

To clarify, the merging process did not select an account; this was not an error with the tool. Cross Progression has been active on all accounts since the beginning of 2024, so this is completely unrelated. There is no merging process that would allow you to link your PSN from one account to another and combine that progress, and that has never been the case.

The aspect of Cross Progression that looked at account levels to decide what to keep was only with regards to the stats on different platforms, as the stats could not be merged. When Cross Progression became active, the highest-level platform account linked to the EA account is the one whose stats were used going forward - this did not affect the content on the account. Additionally, this was only related to platforms that were already linked to the same EA account prior to Cross Progression beginning, back in October 2023.

When it comes to progress or content being merged, this was never possible if you had progress on two separate EA accounts, as was the case here. Moving your PSN does not move or merge content.

If your PSN is now unlinked, you can try re-linking it to its original EA account to see if that progress can be restored. This won't put it on the same EA account as your PC, which I understand is the goal, but that unfortunately has never been possible.
