APEX FREEZES PC

Hello there,

On Saturday morning 11/05/2024 Sydney time. I logged into Apex as I have been since 29/04/2024 every single night.

I'm in the firing range. Couple mintues in, my game & pc completely freezes. It does not accept any inputs and I can't even open task manager.
The only solution was to power off and restart my pc.

The same occured every single time after that. I have timed it and it's about 5 minutes and 8-20 seconds since launching the game. It does not matter what I do when I have opened the game. I have not attempted to play a game since I know it will freeze. I have been in the firing range and in settings.

The very first time it happened I restarted the computer and I got the message that cpu and memory changed even though I have not changed anything. The following attempts this message did not appear. (image 1)

Going through online forums, multiple people suggested it could just be the BIOS battery. I have swapped the battery for a new one and tested the old one and it was indeed depleted.

Alas, it did not solve the issue!

I have tried many things since then. some of these were the solutions for people who had similar but not exactly the same issue as me, which include:

- I have uninstalled graphics drivers via Display Driver Uninstaller and re-installed the latest again.

- I have uninstalled apex and re-installed.
- I have done repair game.

- I have launched the game using a new windows user with admin access

- I have disabled the USB selective suspend setting under power options (apparently this worked for someone with a similar freezing problem but I bet it's unrelated and I am desperate)
- I have done stress tests for both GPU and CPU and no issue there.
- I have checked my ssd health with samsung magician and updated to the latest firmware.

- I have done all the checks:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
chkdsk /f /r

most importantly I can play other games with no issue such as Paladins & Valorant.
Paladins also has easy anti cheat so It is likely not the issue imo.

This is exclusively an issue for Apex. This is the first time happening. I have been playing on and off since launch. I have over 1300 hours.

I have attached DxDiag.txt if it helps.

I won't reset my pc as a solution just because it MIGHT fix the problem. I am not bothered re-installing all the softwares and settings blah blah.

  • Hi Everyone, sorry I have not used this kind of forum before. I hope everyone can read this. I too have been having the same issue of my pc freezing and becoming totally unresponsive. I then have to hole the power button down to turn off and turn back on again. Only for the same thing to happen again after 5mins of loading Apex back up.

This has been happening only in season 21. I have been playing everyday since season 11 and have 6000+hrs of playtime. I only played Apex and to have this happen was heart breaking. I do have other games similar to Apex like Fortnite & CoD. They never crashed once. This only happens on Apex. I had tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling, clean boots, drive updates, performance iterations ect.

However as of tonight I am crash free. Another post in a feed similar to this said he used another laptop and played over wi-fi and did not crash. So, if like me, you are a serious Apex player, you may well be using an ethernet connection. I simply unplugged my ethernet cable and connected to my secure wi-fi and loaded up Apex and can happily say so far I am crash free. No issues at all.

Please spread the word. I was trying everything for hours every night...only to discover all I had to do was play of wi-fi.

Good luck to everyone who is still having this issue. Hopefully Respawn can look into this and patch a repair.

Unfortunately disabling eth and going wifi didn't work.

Tried Disabling everything and tried with ethernet, or only Atheros usb, same EasyAntiCheat_EOS.sys KMODE BSOD crash after 5-10 mins in the game.

Clean boot, vc redists,  repairs, resetting EAC, nothing works.. only thing I haven't tried is Win11..

Which other game uses EAC_EOS? any free ones?

@PJ-GamerGuy the solution for me is different, I could say it's opposite to what some people are doing. I continued playing via ethernet, but I disabled my wifi adapter which fixed the issue. I have not marked any comment as THE solution since it does not solve everyone's problem. I'm just gonna keep it open for now I guess.
  • This solved my issue. I had tried everything and disabling wifi fixed it, can't believe it! Thank you so much!
