Apex Legends 100% CPU usage

Started playing recently after taking a break, game was running just fine with some frame drops and freezing that last for a bit (1-3 seconds).

After some time game started freezing more often in-game as well as in lobby, i have never had this issue when i was playing S22 and previous seasons on DX11.

Task Manager shows System ( ntoskrnl.exe ) process using 30% of CPU while running the game potentially being caused by the Anti-Cheat, COM Surrogate process sometimes also takes 30% of CPU but quickly drops back to 0-1%.

Following 4 screenshots:

  • 2->4: Task Manager
  • apexrtss: RTSS screenshot while in-game

My CPU: Intel Core i5-7400 4 Cores 4 Threads 3.0 GHz

Other people also experiencing the same issue have a Core i5 4 Core 4 Thread CPU, if you also experience this issue please specify your CPU in the replies.

Really hope this issue will be resolved quickly.

    [Update] While playing VRChat ( also Easy Anti Cheat protected game ) the same issue happens there too meaning that the issue of System process and COM Surrogate CPU usage is with Easy Anti Cheat as a whole. EA_Mako Any possibility of passing this info to EAC team?

  • I play on the i3-7100 which as a 2 core 4 thread CPU and started Having the same issue but because my CPU is much weaker i have way too many stutters even in the lobby. The stutters in the lobby stops after like 5 to 10 mins of waiting. It has been about a month since that issue and they are investigating it (supposedly) as stated here: https://trello.com/b/ZVrHV38P/apex-tracker

    Unfortunately i haven't found any temporary solution to this nor i think that there is a solution at all, starting to think that system process usage was like this all the time but the game itself is just taking bit too much CPU ever since the end of S22. They are investigating the issue for 2-3 months now and still no update on this, either has to do something with DX12 not being properly optimized for weaker CPU's or some other weird issue. All i can do is cope with the fact that this problem won't be solved any time soon.
