APEX not letting past main menu. Any advice?

When opening up Apex, I get sent to the "continue" mouse button prompt per usual, but when I click on it, the screen goes black for about half a second, just for the same screen to pop up. Its not stuck on any sort of loading screen, just the main menu, blocking me from getting past it. Has this happened to anyone else? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and verifying integrity of game files, but neither worked. Any advice?

    Note: the first time I open the game, it also does the usual "compiling shader" bit, but after the first attempt. it simply gives me the black screen for half a second then goes back to the main menu start screen.. Also after the first attempt, the game options and regional server option (as well as the "esc" to close game), etc... all of those buttons are no longer there
