Is the server select screen accurate?

I am always showing high packet loss on the server select screen. When I do a trace however I do not see this

and playing through Haste shows no or very little packet loss in the post game recap

The only time I feel lag is when others I'm playing with also feel it, but I do regularly get beating to the weapon on drop even though it seems like I'm ahead. Any ideas?
