Linux support for Apex Legends

I used to play Apex Legends frequently, but since moving to Fedora for my operating system three months ago, I have been unable to do so. I want to know if you plan to make the game officially compatible with Linux in the future.

I appreciate your time.

Warm regards,
Enes

The article you linked reads "could" not "will", and the assumption that in the future Apex on Linux will be re-included is therefore based on supposition. EA have not made a statement about this.

As stated in the Dev Linux Update, the Apex Linux population was small, so it would be safer to assume that if resources are used for future Linux inclusion, they will be directed elsewhere.

And that's exactly the reason why they made this post, isn't it?

They're not doing anything close to thewir best to keep cheater populations down, and completely blocking linux when EAC extensively supports it in basically all modern games proves so. The quantity of cheaters in linux compered to in windows is basically laughable, it they used this ridiculous excuse, and I'm yet trying to see the real reason. DId it solve anything? Of course not, but everybody knew that. The only thing we can do it actively not support it. I'm not playing a single respawn or EA game until they undo the #$%" they did, or if a not official clearly not supported by the developer way to play it show up.

But I'm almost certainly convinced they will ocasionally be obligated to re-enable linux compatibility, with the iminent launch of Steam Machine, and the ferociously growing of the Linux community. I think they will have no options left by 2027.

  • The full dev quote from the update was:

"While the population of Linux users is small, their impact infected a fair amount of players’ games."

Clearly from the small number of Linux users playing Apex, those who were cheating, were having a disproportionately negative effect on the Apex community.

Tbh, I really cannot see that being allowed back.

I am very new with Linux and currently running CachyOS.

I had to switch as latest updates of Windows repeatedly messed with my AMD GPU drivers and constantly breaking my audio drivers too.

When an OS is so unstable and regardless of what you configure (I tried to stop those updates) it does what it wants, I have no choice but to find alternatives.

I got 3000 hours in Apex Legends over 3-4 years and knew they blocked it on Linux but had to give up on it and just switch OS since I use my other computer for more important stuff. I am refusing to dual boot Linux and Windows as this will only mess with my current setup and frankly it's not worth it to just play Apex.

Is the game free of cheaters since they banned Linux? No it is not! Is Linux the main cause of the cheat epidemic? Probably not...

I hope one day Respawn and EA will unblock it and I can play again. Until that time I am out.

It is small for now, steadily growing tho. Time will tell friend. Until then, we can only speculate.

The ARM support was announced last month. The platforms expansion is under way.

Epic has charted their path to the Linux anticheat. It looks pretty much like how it's done on other platforms, so there is no excuse.

Looking forward to more news from EA.
