Netcode / Inaccurate Ping to Server PS4

Hi All

I'm having issues with this game.  It's been happening for a long time and is getting to the point where the game is unplayable and unenjoyable.

I'm invested in the game. I have spent $100s in cosmetics and put 1000's of hours into the game, and truly want this game to succeed. I'm not a bot and believe I know the difference between my mistakes/missed shots vs technical issues.

I think this information is important to EA/Respawn or whoever is in-charge of managing the netcode and dataservers, and fixing these issues will result in better gameplay for all.

I'm not sure who to reach out to so decided to post here.

Inaccurate Ping/Netcode

I live in Northern Oregon.  I generally connect to "Oregon 1" and "Oregon 2" servers.  In the Apex main menu where I choose a data center it will most often tell me my ping is 13-20ms to these servers.

My router is able to tell me my ping and the IP of the actual game server I am connected to while in-game.  I double check that data with a ping-plotter test to check my routes and ping.  My router & plotter show the same results.

When I compare values of the Apex main menu ping vs what the auto-ping function on my router (and a secondary ping plotter test to verify).  They are drastically different. 

My best case scenario is that my actual ping is 10ms-20ms slower than Apex reports, when connected to a CA server for example.  To other servers, those values can be 30-40% off of what apex is reports in the main menu.

After monitoring this for a few months I don't believe I've ever connected to a server that is physically located in Oregon (albeit i don't do this every game). Oregon 1/2 seems to connect me across the nation.  Most times I am connected to servers in SLC, Dallas, California & Georgia.  This is happening when I am solo queueing in pubs - not playing with friends or in ranked which are entirely different issues.

My concern is that if the netcode is using the values, myself and others may be at a severe disadvantage.

In-game results

  • I am frequently shot or take damage around corners/behind cover
  • Peakers advantage - a peaking enemy can get almost of a full clip into me before they are visible on my screen. There is rarely a comeback to this unless I'm running wraith or path.
  • I take damage in one LARGE and latent sum, ie 0-200dmg in a split second.  This is a faster TTK than going into the firing range and laying an R99 clip into a dummy.
  • No hit reg on last bullets in close 1v1s - The server believes I am already dead even though I won a fight on my screen am continuing to fight and inflict damage, damage/hits are reported on the enemy in the fight, but it is not reported in the death report because the server thought I was already dead before I shot.
  • Contesting armor/weapons on drop - I will rarely get the pick-up even if i land first (sometimes I get the animations that make me think I have armor or a weapon cocks, but then they disappear from my inventory)
  • Right now it's difficult to win any 1v1 no matter if I'm facing a lvl 25 or a lvl 500/pred/20b/4k.  I'm latent to the party.  This is mostly at close range.

To EA/Respawn - I understand these problems are extremely complicated.  They factor client/server locations, packet sizes, tickrates (btw my client tickrate is always showing double server) all with complicated coding.  I've talked with my ISP, purchased all new equipment, run new lines etc to ensure everything on my end is as best it can be. I would really appreciate a response - and am happy to work with you here on the forums or otherwise to do anything i can to help resolve these issues.

    If anyone is curious to what the fix for this is, go ahead and delete the game off your machines.  Problem solved.

    All my friends have already starting.  Don't pump your $ and energy into this game rn, performance is atrocious.

  • You aren't alone i made also a post last week about it. Getting knocked by super bullets dying behind walls with a ping of 13ms its just not your fault mate. Its Its t netcode. Favors the lagger as long a she shot first or something like this. U just get the damage all added like super bullets.

    A guy posted this on reddit also with a video. This is such * really...unfortunately we will never see this through. If they re trying for cross platform it will never work cause even with single platform we have the most horrible lag.

  • This is still happening 6 years later in BF6. Die around corners, people "appear" that werent there a second ago... 1v1 900BPM gun vs some slower gun yet I get hit all at once and just die when I put 7+ shots center mass. During the day or weekends I NEVER win a firefight, yet if I play really late at night all of a sudden im super soldier. Sniper... omg sniper... Hit registration seems like my bullet is hitting environment even though im dead on. like bullets just done register.  Im just about done because the only thing I can reliably do is support and just rez peep since I literally CANNOT kill anything. This game is just no fun unless I stay up to 2am
