UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP Blue screen on startup

Greetings,

when I try to start Apex Legends via Steam on the default start option, the EasyAntiCheat window pops up. It stays up for around 12 seconds and then the PC crashes into a blue screen with the stop code "UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP". I added all the steps as screenshots.

Some information about my PC:

OSMicrosoft Windows 11 Pro 24H2 10.0.26100 Build 26100
CPUAMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor, 4700 MHz, 8 Cores, 16 logicProcessorr(s)
BIOS-Version/-DateAmerican Megatrends Inc. 1001, 11.01.2025
MainboardROG STRIX B850-E GAMING WIFI
Memory32GB Lexar ARES RGB Black DDR5-6000 DIMM CL30
GraphicsGigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti
Graphics Driver Version572.16

All drivers are up-to-date.

Steps that have been tried:

  • Validating Files
  • Reinstalling Apex Legends
  • executing EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe in Apex Legends installation

I think it is worth mentioning that I had the same issue with Fortnite (also using EasyAntiCheat) before. They fixed it apparently for me not having changed anything in my setup. Just tried it a few days later and there were no issues anymore.

I hope you can assist me. Thank you.

  • Hey owen3h, you had a perfect idea there, thank you. So actually there is this function in Windows 11 called "Fix problems using Windows Update". It's in the settings under "System" and then "Restore". Well I did that and it basically reinstalled the current Windows update. It's practically doing the same as using a repair ISO but with just one click. Thanks for helping.

Btw, the latest Apex Update didn't do anything for me as well.

  • Just upgraded to AM5 and getting the same thing.
I've tried almost everything, DDU, disabling EXPO, latest BIOS, starting without launch args, reinstalling Apex and EAC - the list goes on.

Worth noting that though I have a 9700x, I'm on the same NVIDIA driver version and ASUS BIOS revision of 1001.

I heard this was happening with BO6 too but they pushed a patch to fix it, unsure if it's related.

  • Update:
I've just updated from 21H2 to 24H2 and no longer getting this.

The only thing I can suggest is to use a repair ISO or "Reset this PC", since I tried everything you think of before resorting to this and the latest Apex update didn't help (though it might for you).

    Best of luck.

Hey, did "Fix problem using Windows Update" fixed your Apex blue screen? I have exactly same thing and exactly same with Fortnite where it got fixed after few days while Apex is still blue screening.
