Bring back classic melee & team-switching – core Battlefield identity
I’ve been playing Battlefield for years, and one thing that always made it stand out from other shooters was its sandbox freedom during live combat, not just gunplay.
1) Classic knife takedown (momentum melee)
In older Battlefield titles, the knife wasn’t just a cosmetic execution — it was a last-resort mechanic.
If you ran out of ammo:
you could sprint
jump
grab the enemy mid-fight
and turn a lost engagement into a clutch moment
That animation had meaning. It rewarded positioning, awareness, and bold decisions under pressure.
Now the melee feels closer to a scripted execution similar to Call of Duty — cinematic, but unreliable in chaotic fights and rarely usable as a reactive survival mechanic.
Battlefield’s knife used to be about momentum and improvisation.
Please consider bringing back the classic takedown style in Battlefield 2042 philosophy — fast, responsive, and usable during real combat rather than a slow animation lock.
2) Team switching inside live servers
Another missing feature is the ability to change sides mid-match.
Sometimes you join with 5–6 friends and want to:
fight each other (3v3 / 6v6 inside Conquest)
balance teams manually
create spontaneous rivalries
Yes, Portal exists, but it’s not the same.
The magic was staying in a populated official server and just swapping sides — it created memorable matches and long-term server communities.
Right now once teams are set, social gameplay becomes restricted.
Why this matters
Battlefield was always about player-driven moments, not strict matchmaking structure:
clutch knife saves
rival squads inside the same lobby
emergent stories
These systems didn’t break balance — they created identity.
Please consider restoring both mechanics, DICE.
They’re small features technically, but huge for player experience and community interaction.
