That really sucks for console players because Battlefield 6 PC will be riddled with cheaters.If Microsoft (a company almost worth $4 trillion) isn't able to stop cheaters (even with a kernel level anti-cheat), EA certainly can't.The Battle Royale will be the worst hit area of the title on PC, because it will be a free 2 play mode (It also doesn't help that EA has a subscription based option, so people might use that for the base game).EA wants crossplay enabled by default or they lose a massive free security force that will report the cheaters for free. Crossplay isn't about connectivity, it's about profits. What better ecosystem is there like consoles? Let them join PC lobbies to clean them up. Profit.Understand, their kernel level anti-cheat isn't about raw ability, it's about marketing (security theater) ability. That's why it was marketed in the open, and even given a brand name.Cool investors with all this talk about security, then reports come in with low cheating data, all made to look like their anti-cheat is doing something. Without a shadow of a doubt, I wholly agree that cross-platform play with PC users is a complete mistake, and I will certainly TURN OFF cross-play on October 10th, on Day One of release. There is no doubt to me that Mouse vs Controller simply should not mix. It is NOT a level playing field. Aim Assist and Snap Zoom are an effort to improve Controller handling, but the truth is the sheer hand steadiness on the desktop of Mouse, with or without the use of hacks, is no comparison with the hand-held Controller and "your thumbs."In both Open Beta weekends there was a great deal of hacks being used (the hacked gameplay was proudly posted on YouTube for all to see, both Aimbot and Wallhack), and I propose that the majority of hacks were PC hacks since it is so darn easy to download and use hacks specifically designed for use on PC. (Just search "Hacks for Battlefield 6" and watch how quickly you can acquire and download hacks and cheats.) It doesn't matter how few PC players use hacks because only a few per map-per game is enough to skew the Scoreboard significantly and ruin gameplay.I have played Elder Scrolls Online for six years now and was heavily into PvP (Alliance vs Alliance vs Alliance - Former Empress and Grand Overlord) and platforms were NOT mixed, and I hope they never will be -- especially in PvP.I have a PC (laptop) and I love it and use it -- but NOT for playing online games. That I reserve online gaming for my PS5, my Ultra HD widescreen, and super-comfy gaming chair. :-D NOTE: I am currently playing BF 2042 to get the BF 6 unlocks (which is better than it used to be -- I particularly like the Iwo Jima map), but, truth be told, with cross-play ON, you WILL feel the actions of hacking with Aimbot and Wallhack on nearly every map, which means you will be relegated to playing with AI Bots who cannot cheat. Ugh....Gross. I only want to team up and play with my PC players. I wish they had it off from the start.

I think it's a mistake too and would prefer it to be off by default, but I expected it due to the beta. However, I do like the confirmation that turning it off still allows Xbox and PlayStation to matchmake together still. Edit: On second reading of that quote, it's possibly a bit ambiguous about if the system still allows console crossplay.

I will turn it off as well as soon as I’ve installed, never to turn it on again.i did the same with BF2042 and up until today I’m still able to play. I’m lucky to be in a densely populated region with sufficient players in my pool. Console and PC are 2 different eco systems with different peripherals and networks that just don’t mix well. Adding artificial supports such as aim assist and stick flick are not going to change that, it only will make matters worse as they’re trying to balance something that can never be balanced. And yes PC cheating is a thing, but make no mistake there’s console cheating as well nowadays and it’s getting more and more.

Default cross play on is the only sensible option. It is more healthy for the game in the long run to have more people being able to play together. If it works like Battlefield 2042 you get asked whether you want cross play on or not when you first start the game.

I understand the cheating argument, but they need to take that seriously and do everything they can to battle the cheaters regardless of platform.

My opinion.
I don't think that disabling crossplay on consoles means that they still get to play between consoles (console crossplay only). I think they're stating that turning it off means it's off, and Xbox plays with Xbox, and Playstation plays with Playstation.

I'm not a native speaker but I understood it in a different way. He used the phrase "PS and XB communities" so he didnt mean merging consoles but everyone plays with their own platform when crossplay OFF. I think MS and Sony dont allow for crossplay off to merge consoles because those are two independent networks and if one crashed it could break matchmaking.

It does however seem like if a user on console disables crossplay, it's not actually off, but just means console only crossplay. So if a Xbox user disables crossplay, they will still play against Playstation user's.

Matthew Nickerson: Console-only crossplay happens if you turn it off. When you flip that switch, then you get, basically, console-only crossplay, and that is, we don't fill with PC players.
IGN: So, PlayStation players can play with Xbox players if crossplay is off, still?

Honestly, I think Battlefield 6 would be way better without crossplay at all. Playing against PC players when I’m on console just isn’t fair. The way they move, aim, and react is totally different, and it throws off the whole match. It’s not even fun when you’re constantly getting outplayed just because of the setup difference.
I know crossplay is supposed to help with matchmaking, but I’d rather wait a little longer for a match that’s actually balanced. Console vs. console, PC vs. PC—that’s how it should be. No filters, no toggles—just remove crossplay completely. It’s ruining the experience for a lot of us.
Hope the devs actually listen and fix this

That is a very selfish take. Just turn off cross-play if you don't want it. There are plenty of other players that would prefer to play with friends, even though they are using different platforms.
