What makes Battlefield unique is the necessity of teamwork — medics reviving, engineers repairing, support resupplying, and recon providing intel. If everyone can carry everything, those natural interdependencies — the heartbeat of Battlefield — disappear, and so does the essence of its teamplay.
No one can carry everything. We're talking about what primary weapons roles can use.
Each class has unique gadgets and abilities only they can use. Locked primary weapons is so that certain classes wouldn't be able to use certain weapons, like an SMG for Recon or something. Which is objectively silly, antiquated, and has nothing to do with balancing the game.
