I can open the EA app in full without a game going. If i open a game and need to min window and use the ea app i cannot get it to open like before. Only thing i can do is full screen game window then use the app overlay. I dont like this. I used to be able to and for various reasons it was useful.

From what you’ve described, it sounds like the game may be running in exclusive full-screen, which can leave the EA app minimized or hidden behind it. You can try Alt+Tab to switch out of the game, then double-click the EA icon to bring it back.
If you’re open to it, you could also try changing the game from Fullscreen to Borderless Windowed or Windowed Fullscreen.
