Thanks for the detailed update -- that’s actually a really important find.
The fact that Windows Troubleshooting can make the EA app work tells us the install itself is fine. What’s happening is that Windows is temporarily applying a compatibility or execution setting that allows the app to launch, but that change isn’t persisting after a reboot.
Let’s try to lock that fix in manually.
Step 1: Force the compatibility settings
- Right-click the EA app shortcut → Properties
- Go to the Compatibility tab
- Enable:
- Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 8
- Disable fullscreen optimizations
- Override high DPI scaling behavior → set to Application
- Click Change settings for all users
- Also enable Run this program as an administrator
- Apply, reboot, and test
Step 2: Check the EA Background Service
Since the app breaks again after restarting:
- Press Win + R → type services.msc
- Locate EA Background Service
- Set Startup type to Automatic and confirm it’s Running
- Reboot and test
If the app still only works after running the Windows Troubleshooter, that suggests Windows is applying a session-only compatibility override. At that point, we’ll want to look at system-level data.
Step 3: Grab a DxDiag
Please generate a DxDiag and share it here:
- Press Win + R
- Type dxdiag and press Enter
- Let it finish loading
- Click Save All Information
- Attach the saved file to your reply
That will let us check driver versions, system components, and anything that might explain why Windows needs to intervene for the app to run correctly.
You’ve done a great job narrowing this down. Let us know what changes after the compatibility and service checks -- and attach the DxDiag so we can take the next step based on the data.
