Game more unstable than a red-flag relationship

Before reading, if anyone has more issues to note, please add it in the comments.

It's been like 2 weeks since the release of EAFC 26. Knowing the specs for this game, EAFC 26 should be able to run on a potato. However, this gaming company with a market cap of a whopping $48.378 billion USD is unable to fix the instability, but amazingly worsened with Update 1.0.2.
After looking through endless articles on this thread regarding constant problems on PC despite people having superior gaming setups to mine, I seriously think whoever who is doing the fixes is probably testing the patch out on a bloody Chromebook while sitting on a golden throne, or maybe those who are testing the patches before publishing do it on a custom gaming setup strongly influenced by the infamous Verge PC building video (Which explains the instability of the game). Ok besides this, now to the never-ending issues.

1. My CPU can go all the way up to 100% usage while playing any game mode. Seriously, how screwed up is the optimisation or coding that my GPU runs at 30% or lower?

2. Constant FPS Drops. The game is so volatile that every time I load up EAFC 26, I have to go into Kick Off & constantly benchmark the game to experience the amazing FPS drop from 60fps down to 10 frames when going through the cutscenes & entering the actual game. That's got to be some amazing programming. Or, entering the menus in Ultimate team & seeing the FPS drop to 30-40 frames. When I enter every game mode, I have to pray the game works properly aka run at 60fps & not kill my CPU. And, if it seems it was running well, no, the game decides to occasionally drop to 30fps or worse depending on its mood. This major issue is faced even when I tested the High/Medium/Low/Auto graphic presets, which is kinda messed up.
It's like the game needs to warm-up like a engine that's never been switched on for a while, JUST THAT this game needs a bloody warm-up everytime I load it up. Pretty disappointing if you ask me.

3. Controller input lag or non-responsive. In online modes which require 11v11 (Rivals, Live Events) the controller tends to have a mind of its own. In attacking corner scenarios, the controller just doesn't work, not allowing the user to shift the trajectory of the ball before crossing it, which forces me to spam the pass button as it cannot even detect my controller input. After passing the ball, the controller is occasionally unresponsive/stuck to a random input for 5 seconds before I can regain control & hope my opponent doesn't score courtesy of an non-existent controller.

4. Graphics settings resets on its own. Does the settings page have a hidden "rebel" programmed into it? I think so. Every time I customise the preset for graphics like switching on/off motion blur or strand-based hair option then restart the game, the settings like the revert it back, defeating the purpose of custom graphics settings when the game basically overrides your changes.

5. Chemistry style search bar has a mind of its own. On the minor side, everytime I search up a player on the transfer market with a specific chemistry style in mind then scrolling through the list of cards before going back to the search page, the chemistry style resets on its own, forcing me to change it back to desired one THEN searching again.

The PC community probably has way more problems besides this, but these are probably the BIG issues y'all have to fix as soon as possible or else the 1st Weekend League is going to be a **bleep**storm for everyone. Anyone has more issues to lay out, please add it in the comments.

Attached would be the amazing FPS in both Rivals & Rush, where in Rivals I was completely unable to control my players, rendering me vulnerable to conceding a goal.

My PC Setup is probably pathetic compared to others but if I can play GTA V properly or even just Growtopia, I can't understand how EAFC 26 becomes a bloody nightmare.

  • hi, I just posted this PC input lag - Narrowed it down, let's talk | EA Forums - 12675257

    having a similar issue.

The graphics/display settings periodically reset and this what is causing the input lag, for some reason. This problem has existed since last year at least.

Regarding the CPU usage, I actually cleaned out my cpu fan as it was overheating, causing the game to lag and stutter. I have a pretty poor cpu but todays standards, i8400, but now it works better. It still has a really high CPU usage though, and it peaks at different times. I believe it's the anti-cheat program, at least that is what I think.

I set it to fullscreen or borderless, vsync on, cutscene framerate full, with low graphics present. I can get a stable 60fps but you are going to use a fair bit of CPU/GPU in menus doing it this way, as cutscene frame rate determines menu framerate

I don't know settings to actually use or recommend, because it's like they don't save and decide to reset/change, and what is displaying on the menu may not be what is actually being applied. It's very frustrating.

  • your attached video is a problem I only get if i turn vsync off mid game, or mess with some other settings. I can get a stable framerate 100% of the time but there is a noticeable lag that effects dribbling and movement, so my gripe is a little more subtle, but it's related to the same thing - settings changing either during or between games.

Yea, apparently there's a serious bug with their settings or some flaws in the coding, so that is a problem on their end unfortunately. This is why I'm kinda forced to keep it at low graphics settings & pray the game runs well.

I've been tinkering too much to know that the game should be priortising GPU usage, followed by CPU usage (like 100%GPU, 80-90%CPU or less). Instead, the game causes a CPU bottleneck, which is much more apparent after update 1.0.2, which is incredibly frustrating. My CPU is also pretty clean as I've applied fresh thermalpaste a month back & cleaned up the fan too. My  i7-4770 has been able to run all the previous editions of FIFA/EAFC so I doubt it's even my CPU being the issue.

I realised that even though EA stated that they fixed instability issues in Borderless settings for PC, it actually is still quite problematic. So for now, I've sticked to Fullscreen, which has kinda worked better for me. I overrided a lot of the settings through NVIDIA's Control Padel, so the only changes I've made in game would be V-Sync off, 60fps framerate cap & low graphics settings. It still doesn't how explain how the FPS drops to 10fps when I enter a Kick Off game for benchmarking purposes.

Honestly, to be safe, just use the NVIDIA Control Panel to tweak the 3D application settings for EAFC. In-game, only use the low graphics settings. Seeing how unstable things are, I think we can agree we just want the game to be stable & consistent by priortising performance over quality. This would minimise strain on EAFC 26, knowing how poorly optimised it is.

Yes, the influx of conundrums is giving me quite a headache, where I have to spend more time trying to fix problems instead of playing the game. It has come to a point where if the game was relatively stable for 1-2 hours, I would grind out the next few hours to complete all possible objectives as long the game works, which is quite sad.

I've been monitoring my CPU usage. Its in the high 80's during game, spiking to 100 when having the slightly laggy gameplay I'm describing. Which leads me to believe it's something to do with a background process like the anti cheat somehow hogging resources.

  • Hey Tasmanaut , I was actually monitoring the CPU usage through Task Manager while benchmarking as many game modes as possible. The Anti-cheat software usually takes up around 3-5% of total CPU Usage. Majority of CPU usage comes from EAFC 26, which makes me believe that there's some very wrong with the optimisation of the game that causes CPU bottleneck or running at 100%. It's quite apparent when the GPU usage as minimal even when I run the game at low graphics settings.

  • Same issue here guys, I posted a description of my issue and some of the solutions I tried. It is crazy how we haven't got a response form EA yet tbh
