Sims 4 won't start, it just opens Epic Games (Mac)

I don't have epic games. just Origin. I click it and nothing opens . 

If you're asking me, what worked was creating a new account for both Epic Games and EA. Not sure if you are willing to do that. Basically, if the game is installed on Epic Games and you played that way once, you can't run it from a Macbook afterwards by using the same set of EA account and Epic Games account (or even just one of them).

I was having the same problem on my Macbook Air, and creating a new account did the trick for me.

I only have the original game at the moment -no expansions yet, and all I did was to create a new Origin (EA GAMES) account, (No new account for Epic Games) and I added SIMS 4 via the Origins Store. Once that was done I was able to open my already installed game.

Sims 4 was working fine on Windows and Mac -- I had the Epic Games and Origin versions. But then I downloaded a dodgy Sims 3 extension and had to get rid of it. In doing so I inadvertently deleted some Sims 4 files and now Sims 4 won't play. When I delete the Sims 4 files and download afresh, the Epic Games version loads and of course fails on the Mac. 
I have downloaded Origin to a different Mac and logged in but get the same issue.
Reading other posts, it seems I might have to make another account, but I don't see how that would work, i.e. how would a new account know that I own Sims 4?
Anyway, any pointers much appreciated, thank you.

Upon downloading and installing Origin on another Mac, I see the Origin interface fine, but -- as with the other Mac I used -- there are TWO versions of SIMS 4 in MY Games Library -- one of them, the Epic Games version, which won't work on Macs. The other game in the library, Sims 4 Origin version is unresponsive -- I can't download the game to the new Mac. When I click the card, I just get a blank side panel appear. Please advise! Thank you.

Should I untie the Epic Games account? Would I still be able to play Sims 4 on my Windows machine? Although I guess that uses a different launcher, so probably.
Would untying Epic Games from the Origin account solve the problem of the Origin version not responding on Mac?

You say the base game of Sims 4 is now free -- do you mean the Origin (EA) version? Because the Epic Games version does not work on Macs.

So I unlinked the Epic Games account, and now the Epic Games version of Sims 4 is greyed out in My Games Library. However, upon clicking the Origin version, I still get a blank panel with no offer to download the game.

Any further advice much appreciated.
